I am planning on doing it, but I have to get some hill training in. The race is less than .3 miles away from my house. So I'm more than likely going to do it.

My wife is tentative for another race that day; I promised to be the cheering section. If she does not race, I will be also.

I may do it, and have in past years.   I like all of Koz's races, but one issue I don't like is the required Saturday pick-up of your packet and you have to leave your bike over night.  Not only are you leaving your bike, but it now takes the whole weekend to do one of their races, not just a day.  That's tough with three kids playing baseball, softball...

Does anyone know how the bike is, and if there is a map anywhere we can look at. I haven't done much hill training (I hate hills). Still considering doing it, but not for sure.

No map yet of the course, but the bike is described as a "hilly" ride to Cabrillo National Monument and back - the climb up to CNM is relatively short but challenging. I know when I did the Int'l. distance they made us ride to CNM twice, I'm assuming we'll only have to do it once in the Sprint. It's a great course - easy swim, a bit of a challenge on the bike, flat run & ends at Sea Port Village which is a lot of fun. The downside is that you have to wait in line to catch a bus at the finish line in order to get back to transition or walk back, which is about 4 miles or so.

Bubba, I noticed on the Koz website that they have a VIP Check-in option which lets you pickup your packet on race morning and "Pre-race check in and bike drop off is not mandatory" - might be worth the extra $30. I'm doing this for another race, seems expensive but cheaper than a hotel or losing your Sat. for packet pickup, etc.

Hello all...

Moving to huntington beach (leaving MN may 27th).

I need a quick sprint race before flying back to MN for the LifeTime Olympic on July 14th. Hopefully this sprint will be okay.

I will update if I get signed up for this one.

Do you guys think I can still get in if I mail my application on monday? They don't accept any more online apps. I'm going to be driving down from Northern Cali to do this one. It seems like a good one. I'm doing the International course by the way.

This is going to be my first Tri ever, I’m very excited and hope nothing more than to just finish. Once I saw the "Hilly" comment I realized I need to alter my riding workout (a.k.a. include hills in my workout!) but I hope it won't effect me much.

Any thoughts for an ultra newbie for this particular race?

I thought I did fine for my first ever Tri. I was very pleased and now I think I know what I should work on for my next one. More Bricks w/ longer distances, Better running shoes, and fix the goggle-swim cap issue.

Here's my race log:

Can't wait to do the next one and I'm hoping to make it in 1:30:00 for a total time. A little ambitious but that's my goal.

Thanks, anyone else do this race?

how was your race?

After reading your race report, i liked your goals. "1st finish. 2nd finish within the times that I trained for. 3rd not be the last person in my age group." That's about how I felt
