Subject: RE: Bike LT vs Run LT ryanlc - 2007-04-23 3:45 PM Is LT in any way related to HR? If so, why would my bike Max HR be higher than my run Max HR? If they arent related....disregard this post.
LT is usually expressed in terms of heart rate, as in your lactate threshold heart rate is the HR that corresponds with the point at which you reach your lactate threshold during a graded exercise test. Thereafter that number can be used as a guideline to establish training zones. But it's just one piece of information, albeit a good one to have handy. MAX HR and LTHR are two different things though. If you have a higher MHR on the bike than the run, there is probably a significant difference in the margin of error between the two testing modalities you used to figure them out. It's not very likely your bike max HR is truly higher. Unless you are an extremely experienced runner who just started biking the day you did your bike LT test. Then, maybe.
