It looks like there will be quite a few BTers at this race.  Will it be anyone's first race?  Who's wearing a wet suit?  After Scott's (3558) performance last year, I'll be wearing a wetsuit.  I like to look a power ranger anyway.   It should be fun and let's hope for some good weather.

Not going to be in this one this year. Looking forward to my first one at Reston Interfaith on May 20th. Got a friend from work and it will be her 2nd year for VRST.

Uh-oh... I decided to go wetsuit-less this year (although, I do love looking like a power ranger also.  Who doesn't really?)  Let's get some sunshine this week to heat up that pool!!!

Hey Hey!  This will be my very first triathlon.  I am definitely looking forward to it, but fairly calm at this point.  I have some personal goals ( possibly a bit unrealistic. I can't help it, I'm competitive!)... but mainly just looking to finish and have a good time.   Looking forward to meeting a lot of you.  I've followed a lot of your blogs (quietly) and it will be nice to put faces with names.     Until then...

Well, it could be like last year, where the 65 degree water was actually warmer than the air ... mixed blessing, really

This will be my first sprint (did one of the Manassas mini's 3 years ago) and I'm excited and nervous. I got a lot of training in early, but this last month I've been slacking. No worries though, I wasn't going to break any records; I just want to get out there, have fun, and finish with a smile for the camera.
I will not be wearing a wet suit, as I don't have one. I hope I don't turn into a popsicle!

Here's a fun newbie question: I'm really quite bad at trying to grab water bottles still. Every time I try in practice I fall over. Should I go for a camelback? I will be on the bike for about an hour I think.

Seems like that is the question... wetsuit or no wetsuit.  I've rented one... but don't know if it's worth the struggle in transition getting it off considering I won't be in the pool that long.  Any thoughts?

Well, the only way I'm going to hit my "prediceted" swim time of 4:15 is with a wetsuit ..... so I'll be wearing my Black Pearl!

Rick doesn't like cold water that much ...... ;-P

This will be my first sprint and only 3rd tri.

I'm hoping my new wheels make it in like they are supposed to be today or tommorrow.  I need time to glue the tubulars on and get at least one quick training ride in on them!  If they make it, I sure will look fast and intimidating even if my legs say I'm not!

Ha!  Last year was such a clusterf*ck that my predicted 4:15 turned out to be about 5:05.  This year I dropped it to 4:30, although I don't know why I thought that would make things any different.  I think the only way to prevent complete chaos is to be the very first person in the pool, or the very last!

I'm hoping that with such a low predicted swim time that I will be seeded towards the front so I can have clear swimming.  I did a 4:19 in the suit in the week before Boston while just messing around (and a 4:2X, and 4:3X and 4:4X jsut to try different paces).

Oh well, I'll take whatever the day delivers!  It's not like I'm going for the overall win or anything ..... just an AG win.

(No, not really, that's a joke with my current tri fitness).

Your thinking is correct in theory, which is what I was planning on last year, and you will be seeded more toward the front.   However, don't forget to take into account everyone who completely sandbags their time just to be seeded up there with you.  Best of luck!  The Black Pearl at least sounds fast!

I wasn't so much worried about the cold as wanting the extra speed.  I'll see what the temperature is on race day, I guess.

If the alternative is falling over - go with the Camel back. I've seen others wear them.

extra speed over 250 meters? wouldn't that be canceled out by the time to take it off?

i would wear one as practice or if it is really cold that morning, but not sure it would give me much speed.

someone was telling me that a few years ago someone thought they wanted your estimated per 100 time and not total swim time. they were seeded right up in the front and proceeded to swim 3:00+/100's!
oops.

Thanks. I'm trying it out today to make sure I don't chafe or anything.

I will be there and it will be my first triathlon. I am just going for a good time and completion and to experience the whole triathlon thing.

It looks like the pool is going to be about 70 degrees and the air temperature will be in the low 50s. I don't have a wetsuit, so I will just be in regular swim gear, and hopefully not freezing.

If the transition opens at 5:30 and the race starts at 6:45. when are you guys planning on arriving. Of course, whenever you are talking about getting up and out pre-dawn, nothing can be exact.

I am looking forward to it, even though I am a bit nervous and don't really know what to expect, either from the whole spectacle or my performance.

I'm number 120.  I guess I should have put in a faster swim time.  See everyone tomorrow.
