Subject: InfinIT HR blips?

I know there are a lot of InfinIT users out there cuz the reviews I saw led me to experiment with it.  However, has anyone used it and experienced HR spikes?  I have had a few experiences (most likely this AM) where I think I am done using the product and looking back to Perp maybe.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.

It's a customizable drink.  Take a look at what's in yours and see if you want to change anything (too much caffiene maybe?).

My HR spikes a little when I drink anything, but i think only because it disrupts my breathing for a few seconds.  Returns to normal pretty quickly.

This was the off the shelf clydesdale mix which has zero caffeine.  Maybe its the sodium?  And this wasnt a few second blip, it was from a 130ish to 196 spike that didnt come down til I started diluting by drinking water and walking a bit to ease back the HR.  I have had this happen about 4 or 5 times now with the product.  I havent been using it for a while during the winter, but dont see the point of acclimating back to something thats not on the MOO course unless it works all the time.

I don't know.  That kind of spike seems hard to imagine being caused by a fluid replacement drink.  But if it doesn't work for you and something else does...

That doesn't sound like a Infinit issue 60bpm sounds like a technical issue with your equipment....Are you sure your heart monitor is working? My HR montior will whack out like that on the bike sometimes and it usually during windy conditions but not always.

I use a custom blend and make the stuff pretty strong. I haven't experienced this at all....I have zero caffeine in my blend.

At 196 bpm are you bent over ready to puke because your chest was going to explode? That is what 196 would feel like....My Zone 5C is 181

I didnt look at the HRM til I noticed an uptick in the HR and RPE, kind of a bonk feeling.  Looked a the watch and viola, HR is at 196.  I am not basing the concern solely on what the HRM told me but having felt a noticible uptick in HR from feel as well.  Like I said, I have seen many have success with it and am more so curious if folks have seen something like this with InfinIT and heck, I guess any other similar product.  Seems like water and gels might be the next place to go from here for me.

Just read you log from the run....You sure you're not just sick? Unless I misread, sounds like you haven't been sleeping and the kids are sick.

Try a run with only Infinit....nothing else. Then one with Gel and water only. That would let you know if Infinit is the issue assuming you're not sick. Additionally, the run based on your HRM information was at a hard effort. Something else that would cause spikes and probably isn't the best situation to test your IMOO nutrition. You're going want something you can use for hours and hours and a lower HR....G-aid and gels make me sick over longer periods but are okay over short distances (oly) for example.

If your HR is going to spike based on food/drink, I would be more likely to think it was those gels. They use simple sugars while Infinit (at least mine) doesn't have those....

Trial and error..I guess.

There's nothing in it (unless you added caffeine) that would cause that.  Look for another answer.

Try posting the question at the InfinIT forum, they usually take a few days to answer though.

I have had a cold, but have been working out still and this seems way too random, plus have had this happen in other workouts with infinIT in the past.  The HR data was high because after 20 minutes at about a 7:30 pace or something (which is actually an easier effort and generally about 25 bpm average lower on most other runs).  I have been taking GUs with relatively good success on longer runs.  Did infinIT exclusively for Vegas training and had a few similar experiences, but cant pin down any other variables that led to this.  Thanks for the input.  I have a coach that wrote up some nutritional options and will bounce this off him to for input.

The only thing I keep wondering on is if it is a sodium issue as that is higher.  Will do a gel to infinit comparison on contents tonight.  I havent had this reaction with other solutions.  Cramps, yes, but never a HR spike that stays redlined.  Will update later and thanks for the input.

Oh yeah, the lack of sleep and one or some of the kids being sick is pretty much a constant.  Thats what happens when ya have a bunch of little ones!

Did you check your pulse when your HRM was reading high? Anything over 150 or so is tough to count, but if you get 15 beats in 5 seconds, that's a HR of 180 bpm.

Probably a problem with the HRM.

Did not check the pulse, but could feel heart beating like a rabbit.

Had a thought on this on further checking- I had a different blend for the run that I used for Vegas and all- zero protein.  Used the clydesdale blend this AM which has protein.  Could this have been the issue?  I had one horrific run using perpetuem last summer which also has a protein component.  Might this screw things up?

Protein can cause GI issues for many during exercise.  But I don't know that it can cause an HR spike like that.

Surprised no one has said this yet, but if I were you I would get off this message board and talk to a real doctor. Have your heart checked out. Seriously, don't play around with abnormal heart stuff.

If it just happens to be a coincidence with InfinIT, it would be good to know that.
