Subject: RE: Sports Drink Suggestions I'm going to go out on a limb and ask: Are you sure it's due to nutrition? Sometimes when a muscle is tight or cramps it is out of balance and needs to be stretched. I get calf cramps a lot in my left leg (which I broke a long time ago ) but just when I swim....my calf is colossaly tight and I am always rolling them out on my TP Massage kit.
SO, maybe try some "sport" drinks AND get on a stretching/massage routine....
Oh, I use Accelerade, Hammer, and or/PowerBar drink mix. The iced tea flavor actually tastes good when the bottle gets too warm. I know Cytomax and Gatorade work too without any issues.
I get bored with flavors and need to switch around a lot. Its also good to be able to use what is on the course just in case something happens to your bottles.
I also take enduralytes as "insurance" on hot days.
If you want to go the natural route, Himilayan rock salt is good, has lots of minerals in it, but very expensive. I cook and eat with Sea Salt and actually use more closer to a race. I read that Karen Smyers did that before her races. It helps me a lot.
Good luck. |
