Subject: What do you eat at lunch?
I'm having a real problem with eating lunch during the work week. We have a cafeteria but nothing really seems appetizing. I usually end up going out for pizza and Coke. (And I wonder why I can't lose 10 lbs!) Anybody have any good ideas? I'm even up for bringing my lunch, although making it myself seems to take too much time.

I make a giant salad every few days and store it in a big tupperware container. I have lunch from that until it's gone. I also use a lot of whole wheat pita to hold my lunch sandwiches. It seems to hold together better than regular bread. Hummus is a favorite lately, but I go in phases. Lunch time is also where I try to get in a lot of grains. So I don't worry about making salads that other people won't eat, like tabbouli or couscous, because I know I'll throw them in a container and take them to work. And then there are always leftovers.

But none of that is working today. If I don't go to the grovery store things are going to get BAD around here.

I usually have a teriyaki chicken rice bowl from Trader Joes but I'm sure other stores carry something similar. I also have a banana, cup of yogurt, and one other piece of fruit depending on what looks good.

I limit my going out for lunch to just once per week and either have excellent mexican or pizza and coke! Gotta have the good foods every once in awhile.

I also feel like making my own lunch takes too much time and used to frequently go out for lunch and dinner. So to over come that problem I started cooking everything for the week on sunday. It saves time and money. I usually cook something like chicken stir-fry wtih rice - pasta with ground turkey sauce - chicken lasagne etc. After I have about three different meals prepared I use a bunch of one portion size tupperware containers and seperate everything out. Three different things is enough variety for me for the week and its easy to heat in the microwave. Every morning I just reach inthe fridge and pull out what I need - banana, apple, cottage cheese, yogurt, english muffin w/ peanut butter(natural), pre-packed meal, and granola bar. I believe your breakfast and lunch should be your big meals and dinner should be small b/c after dinner less activity happens like sitting on the couch and sleep which doesn't burn many calories. I have some Endurox R4 after a workout and then maybe some popcorn or other small snack. Also a peanut butter and banana sandwich about an hour before a work out.
I know that's a lot more than just lunch, but hopefully that helps.

I take a couple low carb tortillas, some of the cooked chicken from the store(Ready Cuts), some shredded cheese, Real bacon bits from Hormel, and some low carb ranch or salsa. I'm not an Atkins person, but with the low-carb stuff you keep the % of Fat, Protein, and Carbs more balanced. It's actually a pretty high protein and filling meal.

I make my salad everyday, usually on sunday I will prep everythin for the week. Cook the chicken, cut up the veggies. Then each day I just throw everything together and it takes just couple minutes..

Most if the time I have a sandwich, carrots, two pieces of fruit, and club soda.  I either go home for lunch or if I am organized I pack it in the morning.

The sandwich is turkey, ham, or pastrami with cheese on rye bread with lettuce if I have it and tomato when they are good.

I vary fruits with the season: banana, apple, grapes, plums, peaches or anything novel that looks good at the grocery store.

I'm with Lynnie B, I prepare ahead and freeze some, that way I take it out the night before and by the time I get to work it is thawed and ready for the microwave. Leftovers is the other option, if you use your imaginatin you can up with some pretty good stuff.

I am a high school teacher so time (26 minute lunch period) and a very limited(have you seen the crap they serve the kids today)school lunch mean that I take my lunch every day. Usually it's leftover from the night before and maybe a small salad. If not some days I just sort of graze all day on fruit, nuts, ect. Also I have cut out carbinated drinks totally so just water for me.

I am very bad at making anything so I know its a pain. I'm also trying to cut out all animal products in my diet. My friends have asked if I know where the kitchen is in my home - lol. But lately I have made an effort to bring a pre-packaged washed bag of organic greens to work. I throw some on a plate with seeds (pumpkin, seasme, sunflower) and sprinkle it with a teaspoon of balsamic vinager and a tablespoon of olive oil. I eat that along with almonds and an apple. Otherwise I have veggie soup - its nice on a cold day.

I eat at work allot... usually breakfast and lunch. My answer is anything in a tortilla. For breakfaurt and fruit with some PB on toast or I scramble a egg in the microwave and make a breakfast burrito with some fat frgsy I do yoee cheese real bacon bits and salsa.

for lunch I try to bring leftovers from dinner, but again Anything tasts ood in a tortilla. Today I had a burrito with fat free beans and cheese some salsa and leftover taco meet from the other night.

a can of soup and a salad is also good...

Bringing lunch is alot easier on your budget AND your waist line!

I make my lunches for the week on Sunday's and put them in serving size Glad Containers.

This week it's Spaghetti and Meatballs(Ground Turkey) from the book "Eating for Life" It's so easy to make one great big pot of something and then not have to worry about it for the whole week. The whole recipe cost me about $6 dollars to make, that's like a $1.20 a day for lunch

I usually take whatever leftovers we have from the night before. Otherwise, its PB&J.

One thing I found that works is to keep a few 'staples' in my desk drawer, such as melba toast, box of cereal, single serve soup, granola bars, trail mix, etc. in case the leftover dinner just doesn't hit the spot, I have something nutricious as a back up on hand, so I don't run out to Micky D's for a big mac!

Soups are a great lunch-just watch what kind, as some (cream of) are loaded with fat. There are some nice canned soups out there, organic and all. They fill you up, esp. if you add a slice or two of whole wheat bread..and watch out for excessive sodium. Lately for lunch I'm enjoying turkey on wheat bread with lots and lots of banana peppers-they add good flavor, so I don't need mayo or cheese...Also love a jamba juice for lunch (smoothie place).

I like to make and freeze soups (I really need a deep freeze) for lunches. My favourites for this are minestrone and corn chowder and they are both really cheap to make. As well, making your own you get to leave out all the crap that goes into canned soup.

Beyond that, leftovers always workout well and when I don't have any leftovers or don't feel like soup, I always keep some wraps in my fridge and make a wrap for lunch.

I rarely eat lunch at noon.  I have breafast at 9:00, workout at noon, and usually have something to eat...a sandwich or bowl of cereal at 4:00 ...

Sounds like you're not married. Those of us who are can just pack up leftovers from dinner.  If that's not an option for you, I recommend a trip to the deli counter (it's in the section of these places called grocery stores to pick up some cold cuts of your choice.  Make a sandwich or two the night before and have it ready to go.  On your way out you just grab it and have a nutritious lunch.  And you save money that can be spent on your bike!!
