Auburn, California

Sunny
Total Time = 3h 01m 2s
Overall Rank = 84/175
Age Group = 20-24
Age Group Rank = 5/7
Pre-race routine:

Rolled out late, picked up brother, set up T2, drove to T1. Set up and walked around thinking about teammates and photos, ha.
Event warmup:

200 yard swim... yikes!!!
Swim
  • 21m 30s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 19s / 100 yards
Comments:

There are only about 3 people in the whole race maybe I could conceivably draft off of and keep a good pace.
What would you do differently?:

Faster pace needed. Study course map more.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Bike
  • 1h 46m 15s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 14.03 mile/hr
Comments:

MUCH improved downhills, up to 37 mph. Don't know how to keep this speed on turns confidently yet, because I always swing very wide and feel out of control. I wasn't happy with how my bike handled shifting near the race end. I wonder if it is from the lower quality or it needs repair. This is tri #2 where I passed people and kept it! Still passed mostly.
What would you do differently?:

TRAIN!!! I would actually say I had comfortable heart rate and very painful legs by the end.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Run
  • 58m 16s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

Serious overheating problems. My legs also were not in shape to handle striding out after the bike OR staying at a run through the long uphill. I was nearly passing out from heat and exhaustion the last mile.
Post race
Warm down:

10 minutes sponging, 10 minutes pooping, walk around and eat! yey!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training. Careless pre-race preparation. It was also very clear I need to come up with a new nutrition plan.

That's a 1:18 pace... pretty slow but I am not too surprised. I could tell I wasn't pushing myself hard enough, didn't get winded at all, and got a little lost at buoy placement.
Suit: xterra sleeveless
Course: GREAT water temp, no need for wetsuit but didn't overheat... maybe because mine takes on some water, uh-oh. Buoy placement was bad, around river curves, although I take blame for not focusing on course map enough.
