I to am all about just finishing, but the competative side of me wants a bit more.  Now, that  said, I know it won't be faster than I've done the last couple races.  All those are shorter distances.  I guess I'll just have to come back next year to compare!!! Plus I know that I'll probably be walking some of the run course as well.

I'm going to do the swim and the run and come back on Sunday for another attack on the ride.

I may write "Hill Slug" on the back of my leg so that you'll know me and can say hi.

So ladies, what did you think? I'm glad to have finished the swim without being too battered or bruised and without getting my goggles kicked off. I hardly did any freestyle because I couldn't tell where I was going and I couldn't avoid all the contact with other swimmers. I did lots of side stroke and breast stroke instead.

I'm a bit ticked that they buggered up the distance and don't even know what we actually swam. The last estimate I heard was 800 yards, but judging by my time I'm thinking it might have been even shorter.

I heard both 800 and 1000 for today's distance.  If you got though the swim today you will be fine even with some additional yards.

I was really surprised about the big traffic jam heading into the park this morning.  The practice was very well attended.  Would love to know how many people showed today.

I heard 650.

Also, ladies, don't expect the Centennial water to improve at all for the race unless we get some significant rainfall in the next couple weeks.

Hi girls! Can you believe it's just 11 days away? Wow.

This heat is crazy. 92 degrees at 7:30 AM? That's nuts. At least the water won't be cold!

I did the SheRox up in Philly over the weekend, and the river felt like bath water. This was my first OWS, and I was really nervous. But I survived!

The strangest thing about the swim for me was just how it seemed to go on forever. I was only out there for 23 minutes (Margie Shapiro finished in 11!), but it felt like I was never gonna get to the shore. (You know that scene in Monty Python/Holy Grail where they're storming the castle and they never get any closer until BAM! they hit the front gate? It was like that. )

I'd be lying if I said I'm not scared about the Iron Girl. It's significantly tougher than the Philly one. But at least I'll have another 2200+ women out there to serve as motivation! It's really exciting.

Hi Ladies -- I just found this website/thread and thrilled that I did! I was searching for information to help me with my fear of the OWS and stumbled across both. Obviously, I'm a newbie. IG will be my first triathlon. Thanks for all of your postings . . . they certainly help! Oh -- I contacted Tricolumbia.org regarding practice swim distance. It was 800 yards.

In reviewing all the rules so I'm sure about when my bike gets checked out, etc., I found the swim waves:

I had looked for these after the dress rehearsal but couldn't find them quickly.  They are under the "2007 Key Race Info" link.  I don't know why it was so hard for me to find, so I thought I'd share.  I don't go off until 7:40am since I entered as an Athena.  Neon Green is my color!

10 days to go!!!!  Laurie

They must have just posted it since I didn't see it earlier this morning.

Wave 2 for me. I like this since it means I get started pretty early and don't have to deal with my nervous energy any longer than necessary.

Think Pink! (I hope it doesn't clash too badly with my blue outfit )

HillSlug--it could be worse. I'm NEON ORANGE, which, you know, goes with just about nothing.

Ladies, I'm home sick today. You have no idea how much this scares me, since this is the week I should be training the hardest, and I can't even get out of bed. Wait--scratch that. You guys probably have EVERY IDEA of how much this scares me. If anyone can relate, it's you all, which is why I'm writing, I suppose. Nobody else seems to understand why this is stressing me out so much.

Anyway, enough whining! Loulou, welcome!

Thanks hillslug! I feel for you and am in a similar boat. I overdid it about 10 days ago -- staining a hip muscle and have not been able to run or bike. It still hurts to walk up stairs. Swimming doesn't hurt a bit. It just sucks. 10 days before the race. Feel better! I'll be in the silver cap.

Hey, thanks for posting the swim times. I'm in wave 6 and have a RED cap.  Yeah, because now I will really match.  New tri top is hopefully red/bike red and cap.  This must be a good sign!! Starting to get a bit anxious but REALLY looking forward to seeing what I'm made of.

Jenny, I hope you are feeling better really soon! They say you can take 2 days off without losing any fitness.  How do you feel about where you're at right now?

Looking forward to the big race girsl - sorry I haven't been checking in too much.

Personally, just going for a MOP finish. My training has not shaped up to my beginning of summer expectations. Ahh well...I still look very forward to my only all-women event this year and also to meeting many of you in a mere week and few days.

Best of luck to you all in your last week of training before taper - I can tell by your blogs that there are some seriously strong women here and I'm proud to be doing RYKA with such a great group of gals! OOO

Jenny, hang in there girlie!!!  "10% under trained is better than 10% over trained"  You have been working hard and you will do fine.  I am in a house full of germs and hope I can avoid the illness.  My son had strep last week and my daughter came down w/ it yesterday - keeping my fingers crossed they don't share it w/ me!!!  I am in enough of a panic w/out adding illness on top of it Wink

Got an e-mail last night.  I'm in wave 2 and my number's 214, my cap will even match my outfit!!! Not that that would be on my list of worries race day!!!!

LouLou, so glad you found us.  Hope everyone gets or stays healthy between now and race day!!!!

You've got the right attitude!! Just think of it as tapering your training a few days early!! I think you'll be great! Keep up the fluids and eat healthy, you'll bounce back pretty quickly since you're already in great shape from training!

Thanks Crabsrule!! I'm glad I found you all too!

Jenny, she's right (sorry -- I mistakenly referred to you as hillslug earlier!), 10% undertrained is better than 10% overtrained which is where I've landed. You'll do great -- your adrenaline will be kickin on race day!

Wow--thanks so much to all of you for the support! I was not expecting to get so many kind, encouraging words.

Unfortunately, things aren't looking so hot. This is day 5 of the mystery illness, and it's only gotten worse (but hey, at least I had an excuse to stay in bed and finish the new Harry Potter). I've finally agreed to go to the doctor tomorrow, but I just don't see how I'll get everything back to normal by race day.

This was the first triathlon I ever signed up for, way back in May. Since then, I've signed up for(and completed) two more, but this was always the ultimate goal for the year--what all the training was leading up to. It's pretty difficult to accept that I won't be doing it now, but I figure I'll just suck it up and keep training for a new goal.

Anyway, I think I'll still get up at dawn on Sunday and brave the traffic to come cheer on the rest of you. This promises to be one great event, with a really great group of women. Best of luck to all of you!

Jenny - PLENTY of time! Don't give up, yet. Even if it's something for which you need antibiotics, those usually only take 3 days.

Then, perhaps you won't have had the hard-core, pre taper week training you wanted, but you can still race. From the sound of it, you've got a solid base of training prior to this race and, even if it's not your dream finish, you would still be guaranteed a great time in the GIRL POWER environment.

I've had to adjust my own goals on this race due to lack of priority level on my training time this summer. Like I told my daughter yesterday at her duathlon, it's just about *DOING* it.

I *really* hope you feel better and still hope we'll see you on the 19th!

Jenny I agree with ms.  All you need to do is finish.  When I did my first race, a friend who did it with us had been up all night with food poisoning. She did the race and finished, all be it , feeling like crap.  You shouldn't throw in the towel yet. Your training over the last months will carry you through. Best of luck at the Dr appt today.
