Total Time = 00m
Overall Rank = 48/50
Age Group = 40-45
Age Group Rank = 1/2
Pre-race routine:

One hour drive to race site, we got there with less than an hour to start time, so registered and got everything out of the truck.
Event warmup:

Struggled with wet suit. Stood in cold water (60) too afraid to put my face in.
Swim
  • 15m 48s
  • 1000 yards
  • 01m 35s / 100 yards
Comments:

I am not good in OWS anyhow - I really need more practice. I did dive in before the race started and holy hell the water was cold on the face. Where my wetsuit was, it was ok, but the cold took my breath away.

So I walked, paddled and chit chatted with the other 3 or 4 people we couldn't put their face in either. After I went around the first buoy I told myself to suck it up and freaking swim. So I did, atleast I tried and after a few strokes it wasn't that bad, then we had to run across the beach and do it again. The second time was def. easier than the first but I still didn't swim the whole thing.
What would you do differently?:

Freaking swim instead of being a weenie.

There were 3 people left in the water when I got out.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

They didn't break out the times. It was a long run from the beach to the bike and I had to get the wet suit off, and then put on the camel back and everything else.
What would you do differently?:

Forgot to top off my water, ran out of water on the race course.
Bike
  • 2h 05m
  • 14 miles
  • 6.72 mile/hr
Comments:

Don't follow lost guy, pay better attention to teeny weeny little signs posted on trees facing the wrong direction so you can only see them when you are backtracking.
What would you do differently?:

Don't get lost. Listen to that little voice in your head that says "This isn't right" and instead of continuing on turn around at that instant!
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Tired, discouraged and didn't want to do the run. I figured I was last and didn't want everyone waiting around for me. Stood around for a bit, cried a little (little PMS, augh) and then let everyone talk me into running.
Run
  • 37m 5s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 11m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

I was glad I did the run, I only started to cry a little on the uphill and then once I started running and made the turn around I felt a lot better.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. I am glad I did the run, legs felt good.
Post race
Warm down:

Had medic clean my cuts and scrapes from mtn bike wreck.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Being a dork. I was very disappointed in my performance, it took me 3 hours. Mentally it was over for me half way through the bike.

Event comments:

This was the parks first Xterra and overall was a good race. I felt the bike course could have been better marked. I wasn't the only one that missed the turn. There were also people that pre -rode the course the day before that missed the turn and others that missed it race day. They just realized it sooner.

Any race you finish is a good race! If you had dropped out on the run, you would have regretted it. Brush off your mistakes and look to your next race!

Nice job finishing! Getting lost, wrecking and stressful swims seem to be common on these XTerras. I too experienced all three in my recent first. Congrats again!

Way to stick it out and finish.  It must have been hard after getting lost and wrecking.  That was a fast swim time for not wanting to be in the cold water.   Congrats on finishing the race.
