Pre-race routine:

Wendi and I were really nervous and were the first ones to the race. Got checked inand marked. was pitch black out. Luckily my aircompressor has a light on it and we used that to set up our transition areas. We both managed to eat something and not throw up.
Event warmup:

Stretched, paced, jogged a little. Got my feet wet in the water to check out the water temp
Swim
  • 08m 49s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m / 100 yards
Comments:

Cut foot on rock before I hit waist deep water. Goggles were either fogged or dirty and couldn't site well coming in with strong current.
What would you do differently?:

Not cut my foot. Make sure goggles are clean before the start. Practice my lifeguard stroke in the pool because that saved my butt and was the only way I could see.
Transition 1
  • 01m 50s
Comments:

Went better than expected.
What would you do differently?:

Struggled getting my shorts on. I need to find some tri short I like swimming in. I hate mine. Get bungee lace locks
Bike
  • 49m 8s
  • 15 miles
  • 18.32 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike was great. Left toe clip got tighten all the way down somehow and it took half a mile to get it to where I could insert my foot. was happy with my average speed
What would you do differently?:

Check my toe clip to be sure its open and I can get my foot in. Try to drink more.
Transition 2
  • 00m 48s
Comments:

Biked in running shoes so noe shoe change
What would you do differently?:

Happy with it
Run
  • 34m 40s
  • 3 miles
  • 11m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

HOT HOT HOT HOT. Both the women who beat me in age group plus a ton of others passed me on the run. Had trouble drinking out of a cup while running. Got too dry and stopped sweating. I just suck at running.
What would you do differently?:

Learn to run faster. Learn to drink out of a cup while running and/or get a small water bottle to carry and throw out
Post race
Warm down:

Caught my breath. Cleaned up transition and waited for Wendi to finish. Drank lots of water

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I suck at running. Also got dry on the run.

Event comments:

Great race for my first tri. Not a lot of participants so it wasn't crowded or confusing. Simple race course. Everyone was SO NICE. The staff and the participants. I must have looked pathetic on my run because everyone who passed me (and there were a lot who did) kept saying keep going you're doing great"

They need more drink stations. Also I cut my foot 10 feet into the race and post race they had no medical support, and no first aid kit...not even a bandaid. They should really fix that as there were several participants over the age of 60 and it was quite hot. Other wise no complaints.

Wow Sue!!!! Congratulations on placing in your first triathlon!!! What an accomplishment! I have to admit, I'm extremely jealous of your swim and bike times!!! Especially considering your foot injury right at the start!!! Keep this up and you'll be earning prizes left and right!

Tip on drinking while running: pinch the top of the cup they give you...that will give you a small spout to drink out of...minimizes how much is spilled all over your shirt!!!

Good luck on the rest of your tri career...it's off to a great start!!!!

You did do great! That must have felt wonderful to place!

Just keep working on your running & you've got this sport! My husband likes to carry water along to avoid the cup problem. Have you tried the running program on BT? I has helped me improve tremendously. I actually enjoy running now (well, most of the time)!

Keep Tri'n! Soon your family is going to start asking about all those awards around your place.
