I did it two years ago for my first marathon and I did Chicago the year after that. For a first marathon, Lakefront is perfect in my opinion, it's not too big but there are plenty of people around you and plenty of spectators to keep you motivated and it was well organized. I'm not doing the Lakefront Marathon, or any marathon this year, I'm getting married in October so that is kind of taking a lot of my time, plus I'm on this triathlon kick now, but I'll be volunteering for th LFM so I'll be cheering you on if you do it. Good luck, it's a great experience!

I've never done the lakefront, but my one and only marathon was Twin Cities. It was pretty hard, very hilly. From what I've been told the Chicago Marathon is much easier, very flat.

Both Chicago and Milwaukee are very flat. Chicago has a nice hill right before the finish line though. Can't recall any memorable uphills on the Milwaukee course, but there is a downhill stretch when you turn onto Lincoln Memorial Dr.

I did a training program for my second marathon that consisted of one speed workout, one tempo run, and one long run per week and a couple days of cross training. The workouts are a little more intense than other programs I've tried, but overall I was really happy with my results.

Here is the link to the training program

I did milwaukee and chicago last year. I think Milwaukee is easier and most people I know do better there. It is a much different race. Chicago is about lots of people on the streets and noise and for me Milwaukee was alot more quite and runnning in nature. I would do Miwuakee again if it was not on the same day as chicago. Reason for that is Chicago was my first and well I am loyal to it.
