Pre-race routine:

1/2 muffin and coffee during hubby's 1.5hr+ drive to race site. Arrived at race site ~70min before race.
Event warmup:

Swam a few minutes. Felt fine.
Swim
  • 27m 23s
  • 750 meters
  • 03m 39s / 100 meters
Comments:

Another horrible swim. Started off bad, and got worse. Couldn't get rhythm going. Had to float on my back a few times. Hyperventilated everytime I tried to put my face back in the water. Kayak came around to help as I was stuggling badly. Almost DNF, but made it back on shore, barely.
What would you do differently?:

Haven't figured out.
Transition 1
  • 02m 32s
Comments:

Another bad transition. Totally exhausted after swim.
Bike
  • 1h 04m 17s
  • 27 kms
  • 25.20 km/hr
Comments:

OK bike, but totally exhausted after swim to have a good ride.
Transition 2
  • 00m 59s
Comments:

Uneventful, which is good.
Run
  • 44m 20s
  • 6.5 kms
  • 06m 49s  min/km
Comments:

Not used to running on trail. Can't get rhythm going. Very hot by then. Exhausted from swim to have a good run. Walked quite a bit.
Post race
Warm down:

Hard to believe, but on my way back home, I remembered that I forgot to put sunscreen on my face!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Couldn't get rhythm going in swim. Totally exhausted after bad swim, so can't get a good bike and run in.

Event comments:

VERY VERY TOUGH DAY for me. Another horrible swim, but I did hang in there and finish. In this respect, it's better than last year when I actually DNF on swim. Last in my age group, haven't been there ever! I keep telling myself DFL >>> DNF >>> DNS. 2 bad races back to back, it can only get better, I hope.

Don't get down, it does get better with practice. You are out there racing and that say's a lot.

Congratulations on being a warrior.
