Pre-race routine:

In Hotel. Bagel and peanut butter, coffee, Vector - no milk, water, clif bar - in a 3 hour period.
Event warmup:

Very little. Went in the water to get used it it. It was lovely.
Swim
  • 46m
  • 1800 meters
  • 02m 34s / 100 meters
Transition 1
  • 04m 46s
Comments:

Pretty good transition. it was pissing with rain, there was not point to drying off. Socks were soaked as soon as I put them on and there was mud on one of them when I put them down. Had some trouble starting up the Garmin - I had forgot to set it to bike. Overall transition was very good, compared to previous war my tri top and HR strap through the swim.
What would you do differently?:

Not bother with the socks (when it is raining) Remember to set my computer the night before. Run with the bike. Everything else was good.
Bike
  • 1h 20m
  • 40 kms
  • 30.00 km/hr
Comments:

They shut down the chip timing. I have no idea how I did compared to everyone else. I would get anything from 40 to 60th out of 97
What would you do differently?:

Push even harder. Otherwise I think I rode very tactically and well, despite the rain.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

No transition, race called on account of lightning
What would you do differently?:

Ask God to not let the big booms come!
Run

  • 10 kms

Comments:

Cancelled.
Post race
Warm down:

Close to hypothermia. Couldn't warm up, took quick warm shower, but it was wet everywhere. shivered for about 30 minutes. Post race BBQ was nice, but the place was freezing.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Rain and lightning.

Event comments:

hard to judge because of all the rain.

First lap at 24...should have been about 18-20 min! Because that is what I'm swimming now and I felt fast. Final time includes run to transition so second lap must have been about 20-21, so I did get considerably faster!
Suit: Felt good -atac.
Course: it was more than 1500. I'm writing 1800 out of protest. There is no way that distance was 1500. Even the ironmen in the group said that was way past the stated distance. Lots of weeds, the course was too close to the shore. Felt good, sleek, felt like a bit of a whale in a pod, bumping up comfortably against others, until some chick almost took my eye out with her elbow...but I didn't panic. Regained my composure and carried on, faster than before.

Second lap faster than first. I had to stop and pee and I lost about three minutes. Two minutes figuring out if I should stop or not and one minute trying to squeeze it out and hope I did not get DQd. Only passed by Stephen Johnson. Rally good, strong ride.

Nicely done. Now that is getting wet, if I say so myself!

I think I was more soaked getting off my bike than I was getting out of the lake.  I'll see you at Regina Beach in July, hopefully the weather will behave.

This is the first time I've gone for a swim and didn't use a towel!
