Pre-race routine:

got up at 5 am. ate 2 granola bars drank water, showered, got dressed, pumped up bike tires, ate half a power bar at 6 am. stayed in host hotel right at site. went down around 6am and got body marked and set up transition area. hung out until pre-race meeting at 7am. race start was 7:30a, .6 miles from main transition area/finish.
Event warmup:

jogged down to the swim start, spent 10min.stretching. got in line for the time trial swim start.

Comments:

time trial start in about 3-5 sec. intervals.1st open water swim. was tough. never really got a rythym. tried to just keep swimming and do the best I could. water was cold(wetsuit legal) and I never really warmed up. only got hit 1-2 times. all in all, the swim was the most unnerving event. ironically, i placed much better in the swim than the other events.
What would you do differently?:

do a warm up swim. practice open water swimming prior to the race.

race was a swim/run/bike/run. this was my swim/run transition. it went well I thought. no socks,got into shoes quickly,running shirt and cap on quickly and I was on my way.
run/bike transition-also went well. couldn't "run" with my bike shoes on but had a fairly smooth transition onto the bike course.

tough bike course. had to get off and walk up two hills. it was a nice challenge. no mechanical problems. nutrition-water, 1 gel towards the beginning, 1 gel towards the end.
What would you do differently?:

keep training, riding more hills, training for longer distances.

run times weren't good at all but this didn't really bother me. on both I just wanted to get through the best I could.
1st run place-164-in age group
2nd run place-172-in age group

these run times were expected.
What would you do differently?:

run more, run hills, build up running endurance.

walked around for a little while, drank water. should of stretched but I forgot to.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

2 months of training, my weight

my first triathlon! i had a great time!(don't have stats on total participants and my place overall but I estimate 450 or so total participants.)
