Expert 739 Flower Mound, TX | Subject: New IMAZ date??? This press release is mainly about the extension of the CDA contract, but in the middle it mentions that CDA will be the "first Ironman of the year in North America in 2008. The Ironman race in Arizona -- which has traditionally been held in April -- will move to November, pushing Coeur d'Alene's fourth-Sunday-in-June spot to the top of the list." This article could be wrong. It might should read 2009. I don't think they could/would actually move the date as they already have 2000 people signed up. At time of posting, I couldn't find any more info on ironman.com or nasports.com. Either way, IMAZ in November will be interesting! |

Mesa | Subject: RE: New IMAZ date??? Look... all you yahoos who think IMAZ should move to the fall should take a second to think that the locals are a big part of the race both competing and providing support to the race. The majority of people in the race are local. Now moving the race to the fall would make it more difficult for locals to race due to extreme heat for training. Just please cut the crap of the race moving until it actually moves.... I have see this BS too many times and for someone to bring it up when the race date has already been announced is pure asslike. Ok... I have vented. Think of me as you will but stop the crap. |

Just because we are talking about it, doesn't make us Yahoos. For some people having the race in November, will be the difference between them doing this race or not. Since these races fill up a year in advance, I don't blame people for wanting to know how and when to prepare. If the locals have a problem with the date changing, YOU should be complaining to NAS, not the people who are trying to figure out what they are doing. Edited by madcow 2007-06-22 2:25 PM |

Subject: RE: New IMAZ date??? Stand Down: Accdg to a post on ST (so take that for what it's worth), NAS responded to an email inquiry as follows: Direct from NA Sports, "That was misquoted by the press, that race will not change and it is going to be held on April 13th 2008". So Chile, you can save the whining for Summer 2009 |

Elite 2706 Hurst, Texas | Subject: RE: New IMAZ date??? Just to add fuel to the rumor mill, one guy over on ST says that NA Sports was supposedly considering a Texas race. There is no information about this anywhere else, so it is probably completely false...but oh how cool that would be to have an IM here at home. I really envy the folks who live in IM communities and that can train on the course, etc. |

Subject: RE: New IMAZ date??? naners - 2007-06-22 1:16 PM This is sort of off topic, but how/why do they decide to change dates? Also, how often do they start new races? One theory is that NAS wants to make Silverman (Las Vegas, November) go away. Supposedly they've changed dates before to compete with other races. I don't know where. AZ is one of the only (the only?) NAS branded IM race that doesn't sell out very quickly, so that may have something to do with it. Edit - madcow went to a meeting a year or so ago where NAS /IM people were speaking, and I believe they said something like don' expect to see many new IM venues, they are very difficult to get clearance to put on. I can see how they would be logistical nightmares. That means my hopes of seeing an IM race with a non-wetsuit ocean swim in a climate similar to Hawaii (Kona aside) is not very likely? Bummer.

Elite 3235 San Diego | Subject: RE: New IMAZ date??? Usually the dates of races don't move too much, a weekend give or take. IM races need permits and all of that way in advance so they are pretty much set in stone. I hadn't heard the Silverman rumor before. I do know that IMAZ and CDA have problems with the race filling up. Those races are mostly west coasters that can train during the winter. Moving Az to Nov. will give the rest of the nation the chance to train for it. Chili might be better to answer this, but I think the weather is very unpredictable in April. I'm not sure if it more predictable in Nov. Also, since IMAZ was added a couple of years ago, they moved the Cali 70.3 from April to March. The number of racers has dropped ever since then. San Diego only gets 3 days of rain every year and they always end up being the week of the race, threatening to cancel the swim. Moving it back to April will guarantee good weather It will also give people another month to train. Yes Chris, they did say it was very hard to add a race. They don't search for race sites, cities come and recruit them. But when it comes down to it, it is very hard to get all of the surrounding cities and agencies in the city to go for it. IMCalifornia is definitely out of the question. Edited by madcow 2007-06-22 3:41 PM |

Subject: RE: New IMAZ date??? IMCalifornia is definitely out of the question. total hijack, but why did IM Cal go away? Not that I'd want to do the Pendleton loop twice or the OCeanside pier loop 4 times (!!, you saw how I looked after two! ) Was it 9/11?

Elite 3235 San Diego | Subject: RE: New IMAZ date??? Sorry, a full IM in California is out. At least for NA Sports You can always do the Ironman Revisted event. That race is on the original course in Oahu. The problem or benefit is that it is an event and not a race. You can take as long as you want. And you do get the origional "hole in the head" Ironman trophy Edited by madcow 2007-06-22 4:01 PM |

I just checked it out. It looks great! They really should advertise that more over here. Within the next couple of seasons, I would like to do an IM race. Luckily, I have some time to figure out which will be best for me. I'll be quiet now. Sorry, Arizona debaters! |

Champion 9600 Fountain Hills, AZ | Subject: RE: New IMAZ date??? Weather here in November is usually better than April in so far as it's often a bit cooler and the winter rains, what little we have, haven't begun yet. It can be downright cool some days. I think there is a very good chance that they may try and ALSO run a Nov. race to see how it does, but won't announce that until they sell out April, which will take another few months. In regards to how the locals feel, as Chili said, the April date is ideal for us. I know I am not looking forward to training this summer for Kona, but we do what we must and if IMAZ becomes a November race I say SUCK IT UP, BUTTERCUP!!!!! |

I've lived here so long that I don't want to train during the winter, it's too cold (I actually have to wear gloves when I bike!!
