Pre-race routine:

Alarm was set for 4am, but I woke up at 3:40 so I decided to just get up and get on with it. I had packed my bag the night before and laid out my riding gear, so by 4:00 I was ready to go. Got my bike and bag downstairs, checked out of the dorm, dropped my bag off at the luggage truck and was one of the first folks to breakfast at 4:30. Had breakfast, then hung out with some of the other folks on my company's team until we rolled off at 6:30am.
Event warmup:

Since this was a ride and not a race, I chose not to warm up beforehand. The group rode together for the first 3 miles until we got to the Newport bridge, which was quite slow and served as a warmup of sorts.

Comments:

Today I paid the price for pushing too hard yesterday. I had decided beforehad that I would hang back and ride with some folks from my team, but after the first few miles it became obvious that I did not really have a choice.
The start of the ride was interesting, as we got to ride over the Newport bridge and the Jamestown bridge, which are normally off limits for bikes. The DOT closed one lane on each bridge for us, which was cool. The Newport bridge consisted of a 1 1/2 mile climb, followed my a 1/2 mile steep descent. The Jamestown bridge was a shorter climb, but challenging nonetheless.
Given that I was so tired after yesterday's ride, I chose to stop and all the rest stops along the route. Mid-way through the day I noticed that my hands, wrists and shoulders were really starting to hurt, no doubt in part because of my aggressive aero position on the bike. The soreness in my hands made it especially hard to work the bar-end shifters, which was tough. But, I managed to push through and finish, for which I was pleased.
What would you do differently?:

Work harder on Day 1 at keeping my average speed lower and on target, so that I can do a "negative split" for each day and for the weekend.
Post race
Warm down:

After I finished I rode directly over to where my car was parked, put my bike on the rack, and then searched out the massage line. After my massage I got some food, hung out with some teammates for a while, then packed up and headed home. Once I got home, I had a long soak in the hot tub before dinner, then early to bed.

Great riding Scott!

I wish I could have done it with you...next year!

Those bridges look challenging but fun. Hope you feel good today and tomorrow as you have Cranberry to train for.

Are the folks that crashed ok?

I think the folks who crashed will be okay, but they're both pretty banged up.  Ironically, the first crash was Joe Lezon, our team captain who you told about your crash.  He crashed coming down the back side of the second bridge when another cyclist swerved in front of him.

My legs don't feel too bad actually, which is good because I'm running the Corporate Challenge on Thursday.  What's really sore are my hands, wrists and shoulders from riding my new aero bars all weekend!

Wow... I would have a hard time climbing those bridges - not only because of the steep acent, but because it's a BRIDGE.  I freaked out when doing the Lowell 1/2 M running across the bridge.

Nice job, despite the 2nd day tiredness.
