Total Time = 1h 23m 7s
Overall Rank = 202/373
Age Group = Athena
Age Group Rank = 3/10
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:45. Finished packing up the car, made a bagel and pb then drove to pick up Kim. After missing the entrance to Webster Lake twice, we made it to the race site at a little before 7 a.m.
Event warmup:

Picked up numbers, got body marked, went and felt the water (not too cold) and mostly hung around waiting for the start.
Swim
  • 12m 8s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 22s / 100 yards
Comments:

Kim and I started next to each so I was able to draft off of her the entire swim. Swim went fairly well until the end when we started to run into people from the prior wave. Altogether pretty nice.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

No seperate T1 time (this became part of my bike time). There was probably a 1/4 mile run from the swim end to transition over rough-ish ground. Pretty good and moving quickly once I got into transition. Wetsuit did get stuck on my feet (I blame Kim for this who put that thought in my head before the race began).
What would you do differently?:

Run faster.
Bike
  • 46m 39s
  • 13 miles
  • 16.72 mile/hr
Comments:

Overall the bike went well. Actually felt like I was going fast on my new bike (the time reflected isn't really accurate seeing that my bike time includes a fairly long T1 as well). Only major issue was when goign up the largest hill I didn't gear down enough before standing up to climb and then wasn't able to get my hands back to the shifter to gear down. Stupid move on my part, but I guess this is all just getting used to the new bike.
What would you do differently?:

Shift better. Otherwise a good ride (and I was able to stay aero for most of it).
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Once again, no transition time (this transition is part of the run time).
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 24m 19s
  • 3 miles
  • 08m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

Good run. Kept Kim in my sights the entire time. Another Athena tucked behind me the entire run and then nailed me in the last 1/4 mile (she finished 8 seconds faster than me). I was bummed I couldn't drop her, but I just need to work on finishing speed.
What would you do differently?:

Finish better.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank water and recoverite. Hung out with Kim. Realized I placed thrid in Athena only because Kim entered as an age grouper (thanks). Hung out for awards and bummed about being out kicked.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

2 long-ish bikes on Friday and Satruday, not having the mental toughness to really suck it up at the end of the run and not shifting my bike properly on the ride.
