Event warmup:

none
Swim
  • 33m 35s
  • 2000 meters
  • 01m 41s / 100 meters
Comments:

opt'd to go without wetsuit due to water temp. have long sleeve and was worried about over heating. didnt take tri top off so had issue of top catching water which caused horrible drag. had zipper come down 4 times which caused me to stop swimming to fix. should have gone without tri top or with wetsuit. very disappointed with swim time. fell i lost at least 4 mins on the swim due to error in judgement.
What would you do differently?:

wear a sleeveless wetsuit
Transition 1
  • 01m 48s
Comments:

save time not having wetsuit but concrete was rough so feet were hurting.
Bike
  • 2h 40m 14s
  • 56 miles
  • 20.97 mile/hr
Comments:

had a good bike. time got better as ride went on. pushed hard thru out and handled hills pretty well. nutrition went well and didnt go to bathroom until T2
What would you do differently?:

piss on the bike
Transition 2
  • 03m 44s
Comments:

went to bathroom while in T2 and had to come back for gels
Run
  • 1h 49m 32s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 22s  min/mile
Comments:

had IT band and knee problem coming into race. ran 3 times for a total of 10miles in the last month leading up to race. started well with a 7:30 pace in first 3 miles but then started hitting hills and was forced to go slow to care for knee. ran first 6.55 miles 11min faster than 2nd.
What would you do differently?:

not run in race flats. wore some new fila race flats that destroyed my feet on the 2nd half of the run. on the last 3miles feet were miserable. do some bricks where i run hills after a 2hr bike.
Post race
Warm down:

med tent for ice and cold towels

What limited your ability to perform faster:

wetsuit on swim, knee/IT band injury on run

Event comments:

really enjoyed race and look forward to doing it again. like the miller lite at the end of race. however, only food avail was some fruit.

Nice race, Todde. You looked a lot better than you must've felt when I saw you on the run. How on earth did you manage 8:30 per mile with ITB problems? I think that's what got me, and I had to walk more than I ran. Just too painful! Great race.
