Couldn't unclip at a traffic light. 12th gear - SLOW MOTION. Loud yell. "OH SHIT" , fall to pavement & almost died... of embarassment.

Here's the long version - enjoy at my expense it's o.k:

Have clipless about 3 months and was little nervous at first but never had any trouble. I always laughed at those threads about falling. If it didn't happen in the begining it wasn't gonna happen to me I thought! Why don't those people just pay more attention.

Well, down hill 12th gear cruising, light ahead turns red. "It'll change by the time I get there." Ya, o.k. and don't bother dowshifting , YOU IDIOT! Get to the intersection, looks clear, uh look again ... truck w/ long trailer beating the yellow light. Turn right, fall left (see above).

Kinda glad it's out of the way!!!! and that i wear gloves!!!!!!

It happens to everyone. Just laugh it off. I'm impressed that you went for 3 months with such good luck.

what I don't understand is the people who can sit at a light and not unclip their feet. They just stand on the pedals until the light changes. I can do it for a few seconds on regular pedals but would never think of trying it with clipless pedals. I've began to stop way before the light and creep up to the light without uncliping. It usually works out fine and when it doesn't it seems I only missed by a second or two.

Sorry about your tumble. Was anyone around to see?

Welcome aboard! I've been using clipless pedals for about 6 years and every once in a while I still yell "Timber." One thing that will help you keep from falling over after a couple of years is to put some temporary loctite on the screws that hold the cleats to your shoes (SPD type cleats with 2 screws). My most recent "lean over" was attributed to a loose screw (yeah, go ahead, I can hear the comments now) on my clip-out-dominant-foot. By the time I realised what was going on, it was too late to unclip the other shoe...

sounds like a great initiation!  I've been a proud member of the club and have a good fall at least monthly.  someday, I'll be coordinated.

I had pulled up along side 2 guys in a convertible. My first thought was "hey at least it wasn't 2 chicks!" lol

I've been riding for 3-4 years now with clipless and just last week, I came around my truck to park and fell right into the garage door. If the garage door wasn't down, I would have be laying in the garage laughing.

It happens. And you will laugh about it the longer you ride. Just not now.

That's called a "track stand" and here's a good article on HOW to do it:

DOn't feel bad. I had 2 of the 3 screws on the bottom of my shoes fall our, when it came time to unclip.....My shoe was twisting but it would not pop out. I starte a 3 man domino reaction. Talk about wanting to crawl under a rock!
