I think the swim should be at the end, then we would really see who has the stamina to win a race.

In Dallas there is currently a Reverse Tri series (1 per month) where they are doing the swim last in a pool.  I witnessed one and the people looked like they were going to die and the swim times looked pretty slow.  I don't think this would be real safe in OW.

As much fun as it would be getting to pass some of the people in the water who stream past me on the bike and run, I think I'd really enjoy watching people put on their wetsuits at T2.  That would be highly entertaining.

Hey Daremo,

I won a Tri (first one) a few weeks ago and guess what...I was the first one out of the water. I was 5 th out of water overall.  (1st for women)  So, yes, some swimmers go on to win the whole thing. I am a strong swimmer (come from a swimming background)  and also a strong runner. I am working my butt off to build up my biking skills.  When I do tris, I get a lead in the swim, hold on or only loose a little in the bike and then catch back up in the run. Dont' knock us swimmers out of the game.  I am not goign to complain, the distances are what they are, but they are skewed.

Actually I would say good swimmers have an advantage over the rest of the field if they work on their bike/run as they can get away with coming FOP on most races with limited swim training! (I wish I was one of them )

No worries about what the rest think and this is not a jab at Rick or anyone on this thread at all, but as I said earlier 99% of the tri geeks out there (including me) SUCK BIG TIME at swimming and have little to no desire to improve in that area. But then again racing for a HIM or IM it is understandable to think that way cuz there is really no need to become a solid swimmer, unless you are trying to qualify to worlds/Kona and still you can get away with it been slow in the water (so to each its own I say).

The distances are what they are and OF COURSE they are in favor 1st and foremost to the bike and then the run, but even when I am not coming from a swim background I am working my tail off to become competitive in all 3 disciplines because that’s why I chose to race Tris, because that means training for THREE sports and not just surviving one or two and be competitive at another. But that’s just me and how I like to approach my own training. Oh yeah I make my athletes swim a lot more of what they would normally do
