If you think you are measuring my visceral fat / waist size YOU'RE ON CRACK
What if my waist size goes up with all that strength training???
How about more 12oz curls?
Number of pull up without assistance
Blazin Challenge at Buffalo Wild Wings.... burning abs
This is a multiple choice poll.

After the success (and subsequent confusion) of the AZ swim challenge we thought to try something new and experimental: A Core Strength challenge!

I have no idea how it would work, so here's a poll/thread to discuss.

I added a peanut butter cookie challenge instead.   I do believe that will do something to my core.   If  no-one wants that,  I  say we do core  minutes and sets.

How could we do another challenge w/out getting too serious?

Can someone give me an example what a "core strength set" would look like? Sit ups, back extensions, etc.? That kind of thing? Do those make you run better? (I know I know)

So, no one's up for a run challenge then? How do I kick my own butt? How about a mixed challenge where we all decide what our sport/category is and how much/long/hard we want to go?

Ok....just becuase I like to think outside of the box and then totally complicate things....let me throw this out.

*IF* we were all good little BTrs, and followed our plans,etc...and did what we are supposed to do.....we should be doing the CORE sets they outlined for us.  There is CORE set 1, set 2.....all the way up to 6.  It could be a point system for doing these sets.  For example since Set #1 is the "easiest" it would be worth 1 point, and if you did it twice that night, you earned 2 points.  If you did Core workout #2 and did it twice, you would earn 4 points.  Might push us to do more/work harder or try more advanced core work.  Just an idea.

But I am cool with minutes too.

Astrid.....click on here.  It outlines the strength training BT recommends, and then there is Core #1, Core, #2....etc.....  If you click on them, it will take you to a web page that totally outlines and explains them for you.

Also, after my stunning 4th of July workout, I added the 12 oz curls to the core set.

Not a bad idea at all. I could definitely use more core work. I do a little bit after my evening runs, but this looks a bit more challenging than what I do.

There are also all of these: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/cms/index.asp?catid=140

Any combo set of 6 or more of these exercises could be considered a set.

My challenge for Peanut butter cookies eaten is tied for first place.  We may not even have to do core workouts!!

I'm a fan of any challenge. But core strength? How about a run challenge? I wasn't around for the swim.

We're all for a run challenge...but a few of us are injured, so we are trying to postpone the run one a bit.

I'd be in for a challenge this month. Strenth training would be good. If you check out my logs for the past year- there is about 10 mins ST total

I'll be back on Monday night and ready to train!

No Probs with that here
Any more suggestions about how we go about this? I kinda like Tanya's suggestion with the pre-set routines counting as set.

OMG!! Harry likes my convoluted idea?  Are we in some sort of parallel universe? Cool!!!

I think I should get like 20 points for the Total Kicking Class since it has taken me out for like 4 days now!!!!!!!Grrrrrrrrr!

I know this will make her fall off her chair; but I like Tanya's suggestion of set workouts counting as a "set" also.

I hate doing core workouts, and this would prevent me from bending over to take out the trash as a core exercise. (which I would do w/out a twinge of guilt)

Oh! And I also agree with Steve that the start should be after Mountain Man.  People are wanting to concentrate on this race coming up, and this could be a distraction.

I'll be in after Mtn Man too, not before. Starting August I will actually have to work again...or at least be physically present at the office. But I might be able to do core exercises on my office floor if I wear something comfortable enough and keep the door closed

I am in for this one - started to late for the swim challenge, but thought hard about the jello wrestling tie breaker Tanya suggested.

Can we do two? Core challenge and Peanut Butter cookie challenge (don't want Chris' recipe to go to waste!)
