Subject: BIke S/N bag: Replacement bottles question

Didn't want to risk hijacking the other thread regarding S/N bags but a related question.

So what do folks do when they have replacement nutrition bottles in the bike S/N bag?  For my first IM, (LP in a couple weeks) on the bike I'll be using a version of IM cocktail that I seem to ahve tolerated well (after much trial and error over the last couple years with various nutrion/fluid strategies).  Going to carrying 2 bottles on my bike will get me through 3 1/2h easily.  When I hit S/N I'm going to need to pick up 2 replacements to get me through the 2nd loop.  For those of you that have put extra bottles of nutrion in you S/N bag do you have the bottles already pre-mixed with liquid or just the powder(s) and then take the couple of minutes to add water from an aid station and mix (I suspect the former).  Anything specific folks do to prevent the pre-mixed bottles from opening, leaking, etc?   Thanks.

Pre-mixed in a bottle.  I put a piece of duct tape over the spout.  Not sure I needed to do that, but I didn't want it to open in the S/N bag.

I premix them the night before using about 2/3 the water and then I freeze that.  Before I leave for the race I take the frozen bottle out and top with water.  I don't freeze the whole bottle for fear it may not though but I'm guessing that is a pretty irrational fear for  a July IM.

I mixed my cocktail into bike bottles, froze them then put them into a bubble envelope with a frozen ice pack.

When I got to them at IM CDA a few weeks ago (it was about 1:30pm) they were still totally cold. This also worked well for my Uncrustables (they were still frozen which is what I wanted) and my Chocolate Cinnamon Bears (chocolate was intact)

I don't rememeber there being an aid station in the vicinity of the special needs area, so if you decide to do the latter, you may have to stop at the first available aid station for fresh water.  The cocktail is going to get warm anyway, I'd premix it and put two full bottles in the SN bag.  Just make sure you use bottles that don't leak.

I also premixed mine in bike bottles that I had tested by throwing them in the grass, stepping on them and squeezing as hard as I could to see if they leaked. I chose the strongest two and placed them in a sealable ziplock inside my SN bag. It worked great!
