I just can't believe people would do this. My friend just bought a $400 wetsuit - she's new to the sport. First race wearing it, and after the race she goes to get her stuff and it's gone. She had left it on top of her stuff - it wasn't thrown about, so someone must have consciously walked off with it. Unbelievable.

Is there any insurance or anything on those things? You think QR might have some sympathy and offer a replacement at a reduced rate? It sucks because she was getting into the sport and now is questioning whether it's worth it to continue since she'll have to buy a new one.

Well a homeowners or renters policy should cover this type of loss, but depending on the deductible may not be worth it.

There is always a chance that the store or manufacturer will have sympathy given a sufficiently sad story.

You might want to hold your breath for a couple of days -- there's an outside chance that someone accidentally walked off with it, threw it in their car, and will only figure out the screw up when they get home. This happened to someone I know at a small race last year; the person who walked off with it immediately called the RD, who had the contact information for the person who was missing the wetsuit.

So make sure your friend makes sure the RD knows that she's missing a wetsuit.

And if no one comes forward with the wetsuit, then I'm sorry for your friend's loss. That bites.

Ditto this. I would hope this is more likely the scenario. Its not hard to pick up the wrong stuff. I hope it didn't get stolen!

x3. Ask your friend to email the RD so he/she can broadcast and email. I am sure it will show up, cuz who wants a wetsuit that doesn't fit anyway (unless the 'thieve' happens to be the same height and weight as your friend)

And why should QR show any sympathy? It is a biz not a non-for-profit organization...

That really stinks man... hopefully it doesnt discourage her from continuing, but I understand losing $400 isnt easy. I just bought a new wetsuit and I would die if it got stolen. Best of luck!

Just out of curiousity... was this at the Randolph race yesterday?

I have heard if you have been cutting peppers and happen to forget to wash your hands (friend did this) before using the restroom the effect can be rather, painful. So, I say at the next race, plant a rented wetsuit with a strong concotion of peppers in it, hey, maybe you could even put some glue down the back and watch the fun.

That is correct.

But all is well, the wetsuit was picked up by someone else and is being returned. I can understand picking up the wrong suit as you're packing up, but wouldn't that mean you'd leave yours there instead? I can barely fit 1 suit in my bag, let alone 2.

Awesome that your friend got her suit back. Stuff happens. I almost walked out with the wrong BIKE! after a tough Olympic this year.
