Subject: I'm Here. Need Help
Hey guys. Offically moved to Phoenix. Been here about 1 Week now. Living in Mesa.

Here's the problem. I know of a group to swim with, and I can go run about anywhere, BUT

Where to ride?? I need to hook up with a group or some training buddies, because I can get lost in a card board box and am afraid to try and go out solo.

Anyone looking for a training buddy?

Thanks
Kerri

2 great sources for with who, where, and when to ride are the AZ tri club and the informal group here in the AZ forum known as the ESCKTC. Most of the rides in the east side focus around the Usery pass. It has low traffic and a variety of hills. That's where the tri club's Wednesday morning ride goes, and where the East Side Cool Kids climb. The Tribe Saturday morning rides vary, and usually have a number of old and new pros around to lead the way.

My problem around here is not where but when. It's hot out there, and I'm not a morning person. I'm mostly relegated to spinning classes for the summer

Welcome to the Valley of the Unrelenting Sun and Traffic!!!

I think Harry pretty much hit everything I could think of, but I wanted to welcome you to the Valley.  Posting on here a day or two in advance also works pretty well in getting ppl to join on a ride

If you happen to be up in Apache Jct some Saturday morning a lot of groups cycle back to Tortilla flat in the hours between- 6 - 8 AM. Have to watch for boat traffic on that section (personally I like to hit the climbs just about dawn so I take lights, then I have no boat traffic on the way back). Scenery wise it ranks among my favorite rides anywhere. Good for practicing climbing too. Especially if you go to the end of the pavement. It really is a better winter ride though because of the boats.

I do the Usery loop. I did it on Sunday at 8:30 which is way too late. Make sure you go early. And make sure you hydrate.

Welcome to the triple digit barbeque!!!

Harry,

Now that McDowell is closed, where are you turning to head back to Power. I leave from my house at Sossaman and University and always ride back there, but am interested in making a longer ride. Thanks.

I could possibly be up for it depending on my new work schedule, but you'd have to tell me how to get there.

Hell yeah! I'm not fast on the bike, but I'll give it a go. What day do you ride? Time?

If you can, check out my route map link (above). We go on McDowell for a little while, where it's still open, and turn right on Hawes. There's a little construction where the road is torn up and a nice little hill climb there into Las Sendas. I had no problems with them on my tri bike. Las Sendas comes out in front of Walgreens at Power and Thomas. It makes the whole route more hill challenging (As if it needed more hill), but it's very pretty up there.

I'm also in west valley. I have a very flexible schedule. I use the mountain as a "sneak" workout (not part of my normal program). Therefore, I can fit it in any day!!!! You guys let me know what will work. I'm just looking for people to bike with. Anyone ride around Surprise in the early am?

I'm also in the west Valley but have taken a few swims with ESCKTC and think that they are a great bunch of people! However, in the west I ride Lake pleasant pkwy and carefree hwy. Not sure of the safety, but the temp is good at 4:30 am.
