Subject: ideas for race-day cheer signs

Here's the story: I'm not gonna be able to race my A race of the season , my first HIM (the mighty Morden Cornman), because I idiotically broke my big toe (in two spots even). Wah, I know. Anyway, I'm still going to the race to cheer on some fellow BTers and get the lay of the land for next time.

I need some ideas just in case I may want to make some signs to amuse tease spur on those lucky enough not to have fallen down some stairs and broken their toe the HIM racers.

"Suck it up, buttercup" is all I got so far.

I would be willing to bet you got the "Suck it up buttercup" from a fellow BTer, no?

Anyways, for IM Madison, I made a sign for my sister that read,

SWIM STRONG
BIKE HARD
RUN FAST

Then I put a bunch of stars and stuff on it, and it was one of the best ones I saw there...

Just a thought!

get the family involved...my kids kept trying to make signs to cheer on mom for my first race. Too bad they used regular drawing paper and it was pouring so the signage never left the house.

Use the log on names and yeah, bears infamous suck it up buttercup works real well for the hardest part of the run.

Suck it up buttercup is definitely my fav but a few that I also like are

"Dry your eyes Princess"

"If you have time to read this...  you aren't going fast enough"

I'd probably do the race, or at a minimum the swim/bike. I broke my pinkie toe and the one next to it on my left foot a couple of weeks ago. A little tape, and it really doesn't hurt. I did OK with that on a race last weekend, about 1 1/2 weeks afterwards. I kicked a chair on accident.

How about this for a sign:

Kick some red bike

Food: Better the 2nd time around.

You could also substitute "gatorade" or "gels"

I saw a bunch of signs @ IMAZ that said "Love the pain." Gave me a boost every time I hit that part of the course.

If the bike or the run is a loop course, wear a bikini, and hold up a sign that reads "Next Loop I'll Be Naked!!"

I can't take credit for this one... found it in a fellow BTer's IM RR.

I vote for the "next loop I'll be naked" for sure.

Sunday I ran by some ladies holding a sign that said something like "Is that a banana in your speedo or are you just happy to see me?" It made me LOL.

Don't remember where I saw it but one said "The end is near". Unfortunately, it was at the beginning of the run. I guess that made it pretty funny.

How about:

"Run you fat b@st@rd! I've seen you run faster than that!"

or

"Did you tell your first wife where you are this time?"

This one is great. This can also work in reverse for those of us who are fat and unattractive: "Better ride/run fast, because I plan on being naked in an hour!"

While I was doing my Ironman death march, covered in a film of sunscreen, road grit, bugs, salt stains, boogers and power gel, staggering at 4 mph with my gray hair and varicose veins, a cutie spectator raised up a posterboard with the message "you are so hot." I had to laugh out loud.

Along the CDA bike course I saw one that said "it does not have to be fun to have fun" Which was pretty fitting on the 2nd lap.

Or the girls at the run aid station slapping your butt was, well, it wasn't a sign but it made me smile when I really didn't feel like it.

Dammit Scott!!! I was totally gonna put that up!  Ya know since I took it with MY camera and all!! LOL  Great minds think alike though eh??  Very good choice sir, that one gets my vote every time.  Of course, a secondary vote goes in for what it said on the back...

"YA WANNA?"

"Hurry!  Everyone's gettin' nekkid at the finish line!"

"You're doing a triathlon.  That's hot."

Stand at the 1 mile mark of the run.  "1 down, only 12.1 more to go!"

"Is that a keg in your pocket cuz I'd love to tap that ____."  Oops, that's from the wrong list.
