tim's recent query re: 5k warm up reminded me that i wanted to ask about warm ups for 10k and 1/2 marathon distances. also, how much taper for each event? when would you do your last long run before hand?

Autumn:

As far as taper, the week prior should be enough. My last mong run woudl be about 4 days before race day. As far as warmups, i usually doa few 100m strides about 15 min. before the gun then some stretching, and that's about it. Good Luck with the races

Autumn,

For both the 10K warm up, just do what works for you with your normal training.

For the 1/2 marathon, I am a firm beliver in long tapers - you do not want anything sore when you take off. I would suggest you last hard/long run be about three weeks out, then gradually reduce your distances as you get closer to the event. As I get close to events, I tend to do more speed workouts, rather that distance.

For warm-up for your 1/2, I like to do some light running and stretching. Keep moving while you are waiting, and above all, take off slow once you start.

Good luck,

Dennis
