so it seems like tri-shorts are the way to go - the current bike shorts i've been wearing on rides are some mtn bike shorts - so they have a baggy layer over the spandex. i've been thing about getting some regular biking shorts, and i was wondering if anybody just does their normal rides in the tri-shorts or if that is discomforting. i was thinking about these: http://www.performancebike.com/shop/profile.cfm?SKU=22130&subcatego...
mainly because of the price
I use both tri and bike shorts....I typically use my tri shorts because that is what I am going to be racing in....but if I am riding a lot or consequative days or just feel like I need a little extra padding I will use the bike shorts. I prefer the way the tri shorts feel.....although the Ultra Zoot Bike shorts and the 2XU bike shorts have a really nice padding in them that is not too bulky.
Short rides, less then 25 miles, I wear tri shorts. I own 2XU and Sugoi shorts, and the Sugoi ones give me alot of chaffing. The 2XU ones are awesome.
For longer rides, I wear a pair of either Hincapie Sports bib shorts or a pair of Performance Century shorts. Both have amazing chamois that are perfect for longer rides.
For me, bike shorts for longer rides 30+. Otherwise exclusively tri shorts. I have the top of the line zoot tri shorts, but I like the LG's tri shorts better, even though the chamois appears to be thinner. For me, they feel like more padding
