I'm planning on it. I know you can register now, but is there a cap that I need to watch for?

I'm probably going to be covering the race by bicycle.  Should be good for 60+miles on a mtn bike with a 30lb pack.  I did 32 last year covering just the 2nd half of it.  I'll probably run Victory-Junction the week before instead.

Don't know about the cap. Hopefully I can get the miles in and run it.

Keith...I am only going to say this once (well once today at least)- you are doing the full marathon, you have 5 months to prepare, I'll coach you and pay your entry fee.

BT'ers- I need your help to convince Keith to take me up on my offer. I will make a marathon runner out of him yet!

Keith, repeat after me.. "I am running the 2007 Thunder Road Marathon"... good, glad we have that settled now.

By the way, how hilly is this race ? Just curious.

The course that it followed the past two years isn't that bad. You do run up Morehead around mile 11 and then at mile 23 part of Hawthorne. It's a bad place for a little hill since it is so close to the finish.

All in all it's a good course but I hear that they are changing it a little for 2007.

Thx for the info. Looks like it only had about 1050 ft of climbing. The half mary I did last month had 1150 ft ( very hilly )

Called contact # and race director said changes to the course will be very slight/minimal.

I ran the half last year. Last couple of miles of half are fairly hilly, but it is a very nice half course. Hills on first half were similar to the hills around mile 16 or so (Robert E Lee bridge and beyond) at the Richmond marathon if that helps.

It is not as hilly as the RaceFest Half but it is still hilly and last year it was brutally cold.
Good luck to all who is going to run it but personally I do not like the timing of Thunder Rd.

By timing I assume you mean the time of year. I love running in cold weather... I get way too hot in summer.... love it when temp is 30-40.

Just wanted to clarify what you were talking about...thanx for the info !

Last year at the start temp was 18....don't get me wrong I love running in temperatures between 30-50 but 18 was way too cold
As far as timing goes it can only be a long training run for me because it is too early in the season to peak...

Any other first-time marathoners ?

Sometimes I think it would be nice to have someone to run with. Marathon training is kind of a loner thing for me; hard to coordinate 2 people doing these crazy miles at the same time, so I'm used to running by myself.

Race pace ? .......first timer so who knows........ Jeff Galloway program sez based on my avg "magic mile" mile time of 7:08 I'm supposedly capable of a 4:03/9:18 mile. I'm thinking more along the lines of 5 hrs+..... just finish. Race limit is 6 hrs.

I'll be there doing the 5k, yes, wimpy, I know, but my running is so horrible that there is no way I would be ready for the 1/2 mary by then. Maybe next year.....5k is better than nothing, right???
