Overall Rank = 21/88
Age Group = 39-44
Age Group Rank = 3/14
Pre-race routine:

Up at 630, shower, fed cats, got son breakfast, coffee and soda..then got DH up, said goodbye and ate - granola bar - in car on way (1/2 hour car ride)
Event warmup:

Stretched lots.
Swim
  • 05m 36s
  • 220 yards
  • 02m 33s / 100 yards
Comments:

Oh cryps..I was moving ok but hyperventilating. I was taking a breath every dang stroke (normally its every 3 and side to side) I went to the outside as best I could. Swam right up on a guy doing breast stroke then nearly rammed into a life guard that was in the middle practically. I got off course at turn (took too wide of a turn to allow for other racers).
What would you do differently?:

Breathe!!!! And work on sighting.
Transition 1

Comments:

dizzy after swim... maybe the breathing ?!?! LOL! Sat down to recoup, got on shoes and off I went... but some people were in the middle of the exit area taking photos. daaaah!
What would you do differently?:

moved faster had I not been fighting for air from the swim HA!;)
Bike
  • 32m 31s
  • 8.8 miles
  • 16.24 mile/hr
Comments:

Could not clip in for about first 2 miles on right side. Finally got foot in but daaaah! Bike was good, probably could have pushed harder but was afraid to burn out legs.
What would you do differently?:

Pushed harder baby! Burn those quads down! ;)
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Son and husband came to race and arrived during run (missed swim) and I didn't 'see' them til I heard my son yell MOMMY! as I rode by. He tried to dart out to the road after me and then I heard DH yelling NOOOOO Josh! I waived to them as I got sneaks on. Great to know they were there and part of why I didn't want to cave on swim portion - so swam like they were watching even though I later found out DH got lost on way.
What would you do differently?:

Skip water gulp prior to leaving...do it on bike more.
Run
  • 13m 53s
  • 1.8 miles
  • 07m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

I can't get over my time! Wow! fast for me! Was neck and neck with a gal near finish line and every time I'd speed up,she would, so I said, "wanna race?" and she gasped "oh no, I can't' and we both laughed and then I pushed ahead. Finding chute was a bit hard until someone said 'over here'.
What would you do differently?:

keep in zone more... my mind set of chugga chugga chug... not worry about others around me so much (makes HR soar).
Post race
Warm down:

Just ran over to family, huffin' and puffin'. Got some fruit, drinks - most of what son ate. Looked at results and figured I didn't win anything so lets go. I can't believe I was 3rd in AG! Woooooo HOOOO!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Need to work on breathing and mind set.

Event comments:

Great race for beginners!
