Does anyone own one of these? What do you think? The guy at my LBS said that it would be a good choice to put some areobars on for short tris and for long rides in general.

Thanks,
j

one of my friends has one that he put bars on and did IMFL last year, climbs like a goat. Very nice ride. I have a tarmac that I use for road riding, and love mine.

I have an Allez, but test road the Roubaix. It is an incredible bike. My LBS told me the same thing, and it was a triathlete that told me that. I'd love to have a Roubaix but found a deal on a used Allez Sport, so that's how I roll.

i ride the 2007 specialized transition and love it, but the roubaix is definately geared toward comfort and cushioning the ride. most important is does it feel comfortable to you, unless your planning on a podium finish i think it would be a very nice ride for any triathlon.

I have the Tarmac, but I don't use it in Tri's. I use to use a road bike with aerobars in duathlons, and just thought the 1/2 mile or so with tight legs naturally occurred after the bike. Now I use a tri bike and hit the run without any leg issues. The Roubaix has a more comfortable geometry than the Tarmac, but it is not a tri bike geometry. If you are considering long rides (touring, etc,) then the Roubaix is a good choice, but for the money you'll spend, you may want to consider a different bike for triathlons.

I have one and I love it. It is a 2005 model. I have ridden it for training, centuries, double centuries, time trials and tri's including IMCDA. I am a hard rider and I like long, steep climbs. I take corners at high speeds. I live in Seattle, so I have to ride in the rain more than I would like. It has been a solid, dependable ride. I opted not to put aero bars on it. However, I did upgrade my wheels and drivetrain. The Roubaix is a race bike that is comfortable to ride fast all day long. I see several S-Works models ridden by stage and crit racers in my area. When I wear this one out, I would consider buying the S-Works model.
