Is anyone thinking of doing this? I just signed up. The Oly last week was organized well and not to expensive and since I'm supposed to simulate a Tri this day for my training, I thought, what the heck. Who's with me........silence?

I'm in. So is DoloresM2 pending consultation with our coach. Heard great things about the Oly (as from you), price is right, motivational Marines, etc.

The website recommends a wetsuit--we're not concerned about speed/buoyancy/drowning--temperature-wise, is it really necessary?

Too far to drive for a sprint for me.  I'll bet it's fun though.

You could easily go no westuit for 400 yards.  Is the swim to transition the same?  have fun  :^

Very cool, the more the merrier. We'll have to figure out how to meet up before so we can cheer for each other on the course.

Chris, the swim for this race is in the ocean. I think the transition is in the same spot but I'm not sure. Sorry to hear you won't be there.

I'm in. I'd REALLY like to get into town earlier than I did last time. I hit the motel at 10pm. Any chances of a meet the night before or, at the least, in transition?

If they do a military male wave this time like they did for the Oly, that's where I'll be.

I really enjoy the Pendleton Races, I've made it a point to do all of their events this year (aside from Mud Runs). The Marines are good at organizing races, If you have the means I highly recommend this one.

Hope to see ya there.

Ill be there, I fly in on Friday. I was at the Oly, but it was a horrible showing. I injured my foot about 2 months ago and had to stop training as much and paid the price with a dead last placement in my age group (it's gotta be someone). I knew that I was'nt going to be a contender, but my foot was feeling better and I wanted to go ahead and race. Now I am training my butt off and hoping for a good race. My only problem is that I will be in Florida for 3 weeks. I should be able to find a pool, the running will be no problem, but I will not have my bike. Do you think that being on a spin bike for 3 weeks will hurt me?

I'm officially in. Signed up today. I think there are 550 entrants already for 800 spots, so it's filling up.

Shawn, if you've put your miles in on a road bike, there's no reason you can't maintain well on a stationary. PM me for good workouts if you like (if you do, give me an idea of your goals/training plan/etc.)

Chris, feel free to ride down with us if not wanting to drive is your only X-factor.

I was looking at the website--are transition times not counted? I've heard about the gnarly trip to T1 ...

Well, the website shows that my swim time was +3 minutes but no T1 time. Meaning, I looked at my watch, started when my wave started, and it showed 3 minutes less than what I was credited for on the website. That said, I think the T1 time was rolled into the swim, and the T2 time was rolled into the bike.

Sorry, I just woke up - hope that made sense.

Looks like there are quite a few of us that are going to be there, that's great. I think we should try and meet up before the race, that way we'll be able to see and cheer each other on during the event. I got there around 6:15 for the Oly and the race didn't start until 8:00. I got my number, timing belt and set up transition and had plenty of time. We could try and meet say at around 7:00-7:15 by the announcers booth? I have no idea I'm just throwing something out there. Chime in and we'll figure it out!

Thanks for the kind offer.  Actually, it's just too many races.  I signed up for too many tris this year and it was a little much.   When all is said and done it will be two HIMs, one sort HIM (Santa Barbara Long),  two Olys, 2 sprints, not to mention other centuries, 5ks, swims.....etc

If the swim is in the ocean, and T1 is in the same place, it will be a little better, but it'll still be a pretty long trans run.  There were only two timing mats, one running into T1, one running out of T2, so the bike time had both T1 and T2 included.

Works for me. 7:15 then, if they do what they did last time and get us to the water by 7:45?

I'll be the guy in the tight shorts.

Okay so the announcer's booth at 7:15 a.m. - I'll be the girl with the funny hat!

I swam in the ocean today - well I tried. I am pooped but of course it was not as bad as I had imagined.

Thanks for the good cheer here. I am looking forward to the race.

Im out of town for 3 weeks and I get back the day before the sprint triathlon. Im at an Air Force base in Florida. It is deathly hot here and humid, I go out to run and make it about 2 miles before I can't breathe and I've sweat out the 3 gallons of water I drank the night before. The ocean is full of jelly fish and it's hot. The pool is ok, only a couple people at 0500. Thank god Im on an Air Force base, they don't wake up until about 0800. And lastly, I went to the base gym and was going to use a spin bike. I walked in the room and there were no seats on the bikes. I asked for a seat and the lady asked to see my spin certificate. You have got to be kidding, a certification to use the spin bike. I walked out and ran my 2 miles. I should do good on the swim. Triaya thanks for the workouts!

Oh man, Shawn, that sucks about the heat. Whaddoes she mean, SPIN certificate? Like you have to be a certified Spinning instructor to ride? Gee whiz! Well, way to hang in there and good luck with the rest of your training.

I am really looking forward to meeting you all. 7:15ish, announcer's booth. I will be the girl laughing at the girl with the funny hat. Oh wait, she's my training partner ... whoops ... um, yeah, we'll be wearing lime green caps with frogs on them.

Guns, I would have some choice comments to make about the fact that the Air Farce boys are riding bikes... with no saddles... as in just seat posts.

Hi everyone--just resurrecting this thread for a roll call, if you like, if you please. As said--announcer's booth 7:15ish if you want to be one of the cool people!

Any thoughts/tips from the veterans? Will it be possible to do an in-water warmup?

0715! I'm there. Black shorts, orange or yellow tri top (undecided), vacant expression - that's me.

I might have a white BT t-shirt on. Maybe. Possibly.

I'll be moving down there next month. I need to join TCSD. I'd do it online but they don't have the military option ($45 annually).

Boy, with that hair, we'll be hard-pressed to tell you apart from all the Marines!

See you there!

Count me in! I'll be the one with an anxious looking hubby and 4 rag-tag boys ( who we will have to wake up at 5am!) trailing behind me!

So does anyone have tips on the race? Is there a long run from the water to T1? I read the run is different this year - instead of a double loop it is only one, but I'm not sure where?

Any info would be great!
Carol
