Are races on two consecutive weekends not workable? I signed up for a sprint in mid-August, and now I see an Olympic the next weekend that looks like a good race. Are these too close together?

I'm considering something similar but instead a quasi olympic distance race (1000m/33k/12k) followed by a sprint the next weekend. The first race is my "A" race with the sprint being for fun.

I'm interested to see what the responses are. In any case, you have one vote for do both!

Racing on consecutive weekends is no problem. I just did a 15K followed by a sprint. Running races usually leave me completely crippled for 2 or 3 days, but I was still ready for the sprint after a week. Just make sure the time between races is devoted to recovery, not sneaking in any tough training sessions, and then you'll be fine.

Plus, what's the worst thing that could happen? You do the Olympic "for fun" instead of all-out? There are greater tragedies in the world.

Many people do it.   I am going to try it for the first time in August.  Oly one weekend, big bike week planned in the middle and Sprint the following weekend.

We shall see how that goes.

I did Saturday/Sunday sprints on consecutive days earlier this year. Second AG in the 1st race, first in the second, small races of course. No problems there.

Others have probably already said this, but it depends on you -- your ability to recover. I personally don't think that's too close, but I've been known to do two races in the same weekend. YMMV.

I think it also depends on your motiviations. If you're just out there to have fun, then what's the big deal? And I think the other guys are already said it well: you recover MUCH faster from triathlons than running races.

I did an Oly last weekend and signed up to do a Duathlon this Sunday - I figured that worst that can happen is that I PR (as I've never done a duathlon before, heh heh)

Good luck at both your races!

I'd say the answers you'll get will be pretty predictable when you consider that you're asking a group of people who think that a race consisting of 3 sports done one after another is just dandy, and anything over 2 minutes between them is too long. Smile

I think if you have to ask, the answer is no.   Until you know you can 100% recover from a sprint in a couple days, I'd wait.     I have a history of getting hurt by pushing the limits to soon, so I am a little conservative on these matters.

We did it all the time for our cross country races, but then again they are only 5k. Just remember to push it during the week inbetween. And sometimes it just depends on how you are feeling.
