Subject: Post race blah's
I had my first tri last Sunday.  The first couple of days afterwards I was really excited to get back out but after that my motivation seemed to pretty much vanish.  I have another race coming up 8/26 that's longer, so it's definitely not the lack of a new goal that's causing the problem.  Is this common to not feel much like training right after a race?  Any suggestions for getting my head back into it?  I've tried to just do the workouts anyway but I'm just not there mentally so I don't think I'm getting much out of it just going through the motions.

Don't know if anyone's managed to name it a syndrome yet, but what you've got is very real and is quite common among us! There's a lot of nicknames for it, though.

If you're spent after a big effort (and sounds like you had a good adrenaline kick for, like, three days), take it easy in your workouts.  Go out, spin, paddle, but be good to yourself--going through the motions is just fine and your body will thank you for it.

And talk about it here. It goes away, I promise.

Taking a couple of days off, especially after your first tri, will help. I felt down for about a week after my first - it took a lot of effort, more than I expected, although I didn't feel it until afterwards. Find something you love to do - maybe something that doesn't involve tri-ing, and do that for a couple days. And then get back in the game! Sometimes, all it takes is a little time off to realize how much you love swimming, biking and running.

No worries. "post race blues" are 100% normal. Just keep your body limber, shorten your workouts, make them easy, get lots of sleep and by early next week you will be rarin' to go on your next set of goals!

Great job, lil turtle!
