I hope things from here on in are much smoother for you. I would watch for potholes when you run and channel markers when you swim though, just in case!! There are no killer bluegills where you swim are there? Hang in there!! It's almost showtime!! Bob Edited by rstocks3 2007-09-03 9:21 AM |

Was this the tri-fecta? If not, you better get number three bad vibe out of the way before Sun. When I was on my ride just this past Sun., some freakin' huge bug smashed me in the left cheek - I think it was a grasshopper (okay, now I'm thinkin' David Carradine and him snatching a pebble, walking on rice paper, etc.). Anyways, maybe that will help take away the evil spirit(s) that was(were) thwarting you. |

Pro 4675 Wisconsin near the Twin Cities metro | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin Its been mentioned once or twice, but any plans for grabbing a BT table at the Fri banquet? Last year someone grabbed a table and had a Sponge Bob balloon attached so people could see it from across the (huge) room to make it easier to rendezvous. A donkey balloon this year maybe? |

Iron Donkey 38643 , Wisconsin | Subject: Wed. morn swim recap - RE: Ironman Wisconsin My friend who did Kona last year convinced me to swim this morning (Wed. 9/5) around 6:45 a.m. by the start of the swim course near Monona Terrace. We took off from the swim course starting area and did an easy 30 minutes, going out to the first ski jump, turning right, and swimming parallel with the Terrace. On shore, the grassy area will hopefully be picked up of debris. Additionally, it was a little muddy even in the grassy area due to the amount of rain we had earlier this month. If anything, the area is fine. I'm just picky. The blacktop entrance ramp is a short walk down into the water and is not more than 10 feet(?) across and 3 feet long(?), so not a lot of persons can fit in at once, it will also take a little adjustment to walk into the water since there are some rocks in the area, along with lake vegetation. The water has a slight green murkiness to it, but when swimming, you can at least see at least 2 feet of depth (I was able to watch my hands cut down into the water). So, visibility is not great, but doable. The water felt a little warm (warmer than Lake Michigan when I did my 1/2 in July), and I definitely was warm in my full wetsuit. My friend informed me that it wouldn't be a bad idea to open the collar slightly to allow a little water in the suit during the swim to "cool off" - I did this after my swim and noticed the water felt much cooler and felt refreshing due to my body generating quite a bit of heat and it staying trapped in the wetsuit. But don't overdo it since it will weigh you down some. When you come back to shore, you'll start to see the vegetation and may feel it as you continue swimming. DON'T FREAK!! I had a weird motion sickness feeling for a couple of seconds, though, when I was looking in the water and seeing the vegetation swaying. I talked myself out of it and focused on something else. Further information: Hopefully, an assistant would be able to assist getting you up the blacktop ramp, and a "peeler"/"stripper" will be available to assist getting the wetsuit off. Then, it's a fun jaunt running to and going up the helix. See you folks soon! You will be soon an IRONMAN!!!!!!!!!! EEEAAAAWWWW!!! |

I would have forgotten this. I was thinking about this last night while I was on my run. Great catch! I would bet one is going to need 100% DEET when going through the lakeshore path portion of the run course! |

Last year they lined the ramp (where it meets the waterline), and extended into the water out a ways, a bunch of sandbags to make the walking easier over the rocky area. Many assistants will be there wading in the water to assist you in getting out. |

Veteran 252 Chicago and therabouts | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin In regards to bug repellant....from the CDC web site. Q. How does the percentage of active ingredient in a product relate to the amount of protection it gives? DEET is an effective active ingredient found in many repellent products and in a variety of formulations. Based on a 2002 study (Fradin and Day, 2002. See Publications page.): • A product containing 23.8% DEET provided an average of 5 hours of protection from mosquito bites. These examples represent results from only one study and are only included to provide a general idea of how such products may work. Actual protection will vary widely based on conditions such as temperature, perspiration, and water exposure. Choose a repellent that provides protection for the amount of time that you will be outdoors. A product with a higher percentage of active ingredient is a good choice if you will be outdoors for several hours while a product with a lower concentration can be used if time outdoors will be limited. Simply re-apply repellent (following label instructions) if you are outdoors for a longer time than expected and start to be bitten by mosquitoes. Im hoping on the bike it wont be an issue...but the run...ugh...especially those of us who might be running (slowly) thru the night...20% DEET lasting 4 hrs...Im assuming that is a lot less when sweating.
