Pre-race routine:

Ran across Freckle Face in the bathroom :) Also met up with Hikergerb and his pals. It's fun to not do a race and have a more cas atmosphere. And it wasn't yet raining so I was feeling (probably too) optimistic.
Bike

Comments:

I think I could have managed the 65 miles pretty happily. I said to Bob at mile 55 "I can't believe this, but I am actually enjoying myself. But I reserve the right to change my mind."... Then after Bob's second flat at mile 61 (!) in pouring rain (and we were doing this together dammit, I had to stick around) I was cursing it again.
What would you do differently?:

Didn't drink a lot because it was one of those days where the coolness and rain leaves you not feeling sweaty so it's not obvious. But knowing I was dehydrating after was a good lesson to just drink anyway.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Uh rain. Although it helped that I could drink the rain directly out of the sky, saving time not having to grab a bottle. Ha ha.

Event comments:

Oh and did I mentioned how FILTHY I was after? My arms were so dirty it was abrasive to use my aerobar pads. I power washed our shoes and threw the rest in the clothes washer. I hope I don't wreck the machine with all of the grit. We had a good laugh at the amount of dirt that had permeated our clothes onto our skin. And I have tan lines! That's just unfair.

This is a great event and will look forward to next year. Now I know what I am capable of! And I always enjoy activities with Steve.

Performance:
Wind: Some
Course: Lots of rolling hills with a few good "real" hills thrown in to test my gearing. There was a good stretch around miles 40-55 that was pretty windy. Although that was also the only part that didn't rain thank god. It was beautiful and rolling again towards the end when the rain really picked up. Basically a big rectangle around Lake Minnetonka which is huge. I think we went through about 20 communities.

Nice job Emily.  I drove by the Prior Lake triathlon and they were getting poured on.  They looked miserable.  Now tht your in such good shape you need to sign up for the half marathon monster dash in October.  Firt 500 to sign up get a fancy jacket and hat.

Congrats on a good ride. That ride out to Watertown (esp. the nice shoulder on Co Rd 6) is one of my personal favorites. This event is really gaining some steam -- hopefully next year the weather will cooperate.

At least you found the silver lining in all the clouds. Sounds like a pretty miserable day, but it was a ride, after all, and you proved you could do it in icky conditions so you can for sure do it when it's nice!
