36.70 km/h Holy cow Bopper, did you have jet engines on your bike? Wow, I could only aspire to speed like that down hill with the wind at my back and a bad case of gas! Wow.

Good race. Too bad about the run, but I can so totally relate. You've done it, now get your feet and legs back to health...work on your swim and you will be in the top ten FOP everytime!

How'd your feet get wet?

Congratulations Bopper! Amazing race on short notice!

For a short swim, is it really worth getting a wetsuit? All the hassle getting used to it, wasting time taking it off etc. I am also not quite convinced about aerobars on road bike geometry and would suggest some experimenting before. TDF bikes don't have them...

TDF bikes are not allowed them but they are during time trials, and that is what a tri is, a time trial. Jury is still out on the wet suit, but many here on BT have remarked that the time you save by having a more efficient swim more than makes up for the time lost taking the suit off... I swam my first sprint without one, no problem. But the difference is night and day. Even the confidence it gives you...if you run into trouble (cramp, goggles knocked off, shark bite, etc.) no probs, because you have your own personal floatation device.

With respect to aerobars too, you will notice that on some of the ITU races that they all ride road bikes with shorty aerobars. I don't think that is the tri business doing marketing, I think that is proven benefit. IMHO.

Congratulations Triathlete.
Talk about some serious horsepower output on the bike to get your 101kg flying. I think the aerobars would help alot. My bolt on aerobars helped me an estimated 1/2mph. This is a guestimate but the bars are worth getting in my opinion.
Keep the legs healthy.

Thanks windnsnow, Bopper and Polywog on the aerobars and wetsuit points. I was just weighing the pros and cons in my mind and now the weight shifted towards using them.

Congrats on the race - way to get out there and do it!  Some more healing and running practice and you are just going to ace these races, with that kind of speed on the bike.  I can only dream of pulling that off.

... I'll just add my 2 cents on the aerobars - I added a pair of bars to my road bike this spring (Profile Design T2+ bars) and find that I go about 2 kph faster as soon as I drop onto the bars.  I find with the T2+ I am able to grab them closer to the handlebars and it keeps my weight further back than with some bars I have seen.
