Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 6am, ate a banana, bagle and some lemon bars. Drove over to the event registration.
Event warmup:

Swam for about 5-10 minutes after the busses took us across the bridge to the start area.

Comments:

Had a good start and settled into a comfortable pace w/in about 200yds. At about the 1/4 mile mark someone kept slapping my feet. Turned out it was Stan! He came up on my left and we stayed that way for a long ways. I started getting pinched in between Stan and some guy on my right, so I dropped back and went around to Stan's left at about the 1 mile mark or so. The sighting was fabulous since I breathe to my left and the bridge was right there. I think I stayed a little too far left after we got past the bridge because the water got real shallow and I kept hitting my hands on the rocks. I lost sight of Stan w/ about .6 miles to go. However, when I stepped out of the water at the finish he was 1 person in front of me! And he didn't think he could beat me! Ha! He's thinker than he fasts he is! ;) It was great swimming side by side for the majority of the race.
What would you do differently?:

Not a lot, this was my first long OWS, so I'm pretty happy.
Post race
Warm down:

Ate some donut holes and fruit. Played in the water w/ my girls and waited/watched for our sister to finish.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Poor form, haven't been swimming a whole lot this summer. But overall, I felt pretty good on this swim.

Event comments:

Event got started about 30-45 minutes late.

Hey there, great swim!  I talked to a guy yesterday that said there were over 1000 people who did it?!?  That's a big group of folks in the water!  Glad you had a good time, and how fun that you and Stan were together for most of the swim!  Congrats and I hope to see you next weekend!
