Took my brand new Cervelo P2SL, my first road bike, out today for a 10 mile ride. All was going pretty well until a lapse of attention to the road caused my back tire to drop off the shoulder. I wiped out at about 25 mph sliding down the asphalt. Luckily I was able to pull my bike up onto my legs as we were sliding, shielding it from much damage. I wasnt so lucky. I was semi-conscious when my neighbor found me in the ditch. I was fortunate that I only recieved some road rash and a banged up knee and was able to convince the EMTs I was well enough to not go with them. Hope my second ride goes better!

Sorry to hear about your accident, I guess it could only get better from here.

That is a bad way to get started! Glad to hear you were OK.  Rule 34.5a in the Beginner Triathlete Rule book states that after purchasing a new bike pictures must be posted immediately.

Bummer....

" Luckily I was able to pull my bike up onto my legs as we were sliding, shielding it from much damage."

Now this is an interesting concept one that I think many of us have save our bike while crashing. Hope you heal up quickly and bike checks out okay. Glad your neighbor found you and could assist.

We must all be idiots.  I did the same thing when I crashed my bike.  Made every attempt to hold it up and on top of me as prodigious layers of skin were being donated to the asphalt.  Hope you heal quickly.

Mad Lt. - 2007-08-18 2:18 AM  Luckily I was able to pull my bike up onto my legs as we were sliding, shielding it from much damage.

Thats awesome! I've only fallen straight to the side not being able to shield my bike (fork or rear) from damage.

Everyone falls, you got a good one though. Hopefully it will be a while before you go down again. Hope you get better soon.

Ouch.  Glad to hear that no bikes were injured in the making of this crash and that you are (more importantly) relatively uninjured as well.

You probably already know this, but be sure to replace your helmet. If you hit your head well enough to get a mild concussion like you did, then the helmet took a good blow too.

big bummer, but glad you're okay.  at least now you won't have to worry any more about having your first crash on your new bike

Glad to hear everyone is okay. Isn't it amazing how we are more worried about our bikes than our bodies? I crashed after putting new wheels on the bike and that is what I was worried about after crashing.

Well it had to happen sometime. I waited almost a week to crash my new Cervelo Soloist.

I was angry at some stupid motorist who thought it would be funny to play "the yell and watch the dumba@@ on the bike almost crash" game with me. So after I expressed my displeasure at their entertainment choices with a well known gesture, I took a short cut off the main road.

I came upon a bridge and hammered for all it was worth, it felt good and on the decline I really began to ride fast. I took the first turn off and when I came upon the next intersection and then, for some reason, I decided to turn at the last second. Oops. I realized that I couldn't make the turn and I couldn't go back, and all I could do was break and watch the curb get closer.

I think I was doing about 14 mph when I crashed, the wheels hit the curb and over I went landing square on my shoulder. The bike itself suffered no damage. My left shoulder however, is not on speaking terms with me.

Glad your okay and I am very glad that you didn't hurt the Cervelo!

Thanks for the support. I guess I'll find out tomorrow on my run if i'm just sore or if i've injured something. Can't wait to get back on my bike. It is going to take some getting used to. Totally different from my mtn. bike of course.

Hope you heal up quick! Usually hurts more the couple days after the accident, those are the worst.

Your story reminds me of some of my friends that I have seen fall with a beer in hand. They are somehow able to fall and protect the beer from spilling, but end up hurting themselves more. lol.
