Total Time = 1h 44m 53s
Overall Rank = 288/453
Age Group = F 35-39
Age Group Rank = 14/33
Pre-race routine:

Had a protein shake and drank water. George drove me to the race and he worked. We got there at 6am. Check-in was suppose to start at that time but apparently, there is a new race director and things were chaotic. I did get my packet and took my time setting up. This race had a lot of beginners.
Event warmup:

Didn't warm up. I'm treating this race half as a work out and half as a race.
Swim
  • 11m 36s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 38s / 100 yards
Comments:

24/33 after swim. Ugh! What can I say, I suck! I felt relaxed when before the start and have had such good OWS workouts. The horn goes off I dive in and start swimming what I percieve to be a fast pace. I look up after about 25 yards and it looks like the entire pack is ahead of me already. Now I'm psyched out and starting to run out of breath. I change my strategy of just going all out. I swim the crawl between buoys then breast stroke about 4 or 5 times at the buoy. I get my breath back and keep swimming. After the second buoy the 25 - 29 yo males caught up and swam over us. What the Fk? Was much better at sighting at this race.
What would you do differently?:

Get a coach and take swim lessons. I'm getting more comfortable in the water but not getting any faster. I can't fix it on my own.
Transition 1
  • 02m 44s
Comments:

16/33 in T1 time.I was very organized and had run through my transitions mental quite a bit. I thought I was going to take a lot longer in the transitions because I've started wearing sox but it felt like it went very smoothly.
What would you do differently?:

Get my haircut so I don't mess with it so much.
Bike
  • 50m 1s
  • 13.8 miles
  • 16.55 mile/hr
Comments:

Hilly! One long hill down and stair steps back up. I feel like I'm making progress on the bike more than the other two segments. I would not have been able to do this at the beginning. My goal was to spin high cadence on the flats and rest on the down hills. I stayed in my seat on the uphills. My average speed was 16.x whick is phenomonal considering how long the hill climb was. My chain came off once but I think I only spent 60 seconds total fixing it.
What would you do differently?:

Check my bike closer and ride it prior to the race. I think the chain problem happened in the car and could have been avoided. I also need to work a little more on my Aerobottle. The staw blew out on the downhill.
Transition 2
  • 01m 16s
Comments:

10/33 in T2 time. This went so smoothly that I stopped myself to see if I had forgotten anything.
What would you do differently?:

Just practice more transistions so I'm more confidant.
Run
  • 39m 15s
  • 4.3 miles
  • 09m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

11/33 run time. I felt really good. My only fatigue was at about 3.5 miles but cleared up close to the finish. I kept repeating "I will run and not grow weary." My breathing was also a good cadence. It was depressing at the end to be passed by the older women who started after I did. Next year I'm going to be that fast.
What would you do differently?:

Just keep putting on the miles.
Post race
Warm down:

Are 1/4 of a bagel and packed my stuff up.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Time training.

Event comments:

Very chaotic but I think that's due to a new race coordinator.

Nice race and RR!  Love the "run but no grow weary" mantra!  Isa 40:31.  I'm feel like I'm more in the "walk but not faint" category sometimes!
