Total Time = 1h 01m 59s
Overall Rank = 40/299
Age Group = M35-39
Age Group Rank = 8/40
Pre-race routine:

coffee, oatmeal, gatorade. Forgot to take creatine.
Event warmup:

swam around 5 minutes. stretched.
Swim
  • 07m 19s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 40s / 100 yards
Comments:

went out way too fast. half way thru I was panicking... had to breath every stroke... eventually got to point I had to swim with my head out of water until I could catch my breath. Comparing this year's swim times with last years, the swim was definitely short this year, by at least 50 yards.
What would you do differently?:

go out slower/smoother.
Transition 1
  • 01m 41s
Comments:

was happy with T1 time... soon as I crossed the mat with the bike, it took me 16 seconds to get both shoes clicked in!
What would you do differently?:

practice clicking in
Bike
  • 29m 35s
  • 10.2 miles
  • 20.69 mile/hr
Comments:

Started out fast...HR never under 170, kept up pace pretty easy. Couldn't zero out computer, but at least I could see speed, which seemed to be always over 22mph.
What would you do differently?:

start out a hair slower to keep hr down for the first couple miles.
Transition 2
  • 00m 59s
Comments:

very happy with T2. Had trouble running from rack to out of T2 trying to put number belt on.
What would you do differently?:

take time at rack to put number belt on, or wear number belt under wetsuit.
Run
  • 22m 25s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 07m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

legs felt not too bad after the bike, but high HR kept me from going faster, unfortunately. my goal was 22:00, and I'm not happy that I didn't get it. Maybe the heat?
What would you do differently?:

not push so hard at end of bike to moderate HR, maybe?
Post race
Warm down:

stretched, ate

What limited your ability to perform faster:

high HR... probably started with the panicky swim, and never got under control from then on.... even T1 & T2, HR was soaring.
