I am a relatively new triathlete, just completed two triathlons and done for the season. I own Joe Friel's Traithlete Training Bible, Glover's Competitive Runner's Handbook as well. What cycling and swimming books that relate to triathlon would you guys recommend. I came across two Total Imersion(swimming) and Cyclist Training Bible. Are these good or what others would you recommend in order to complete the library. I am new at this, however I have a lot of competitve sport experience in another endurance sport. Thanks

Here is what I have and like:

Core Performance Endurance (or is it just core endurance) by Mark Verstegan (spelling?) - To me, this is a must have
HR Training for the compleat idiot by Parker Jr - my fav HR guide by far
ChiRunning - cannot say enough about this book and its effect on running form
An AIS stretching book by Aaron Mattes.

I had a Total Immersion book but it sucked. I like TI a lot, but the book just is not good at explaining that they are teaching. The DVD rocks!!

I agree that for swimming, DVDs are better. This may come across as heresy since many here like TI, but I gave up on TI and use the techniques from this DVD: http://www.goswim.tv/productreviews_reviews.php?id=2909_0_19_0_C25

I like it much, much better than TI. If TI works for you and you like it great, but be aware that there's more than one way to do things.

I just bought a book called "Total Swimming" by Janet Evans.  It has instruction on all four strokes (freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly), covering all aspects of the stroke - body and head position, upper body movement, kicking and breathing, turning. It has chapters on swim training guidelines, stretching, core strengthening and drills.  There are 60 swim workouts in 5 different focuses - building swim fitness, building a base, increasing anaerobic threshold, increasing speed, swimming the IM.  Then there are 12 different swim programs  and a chapter on training for races.  For anyone who is self coached &/or swims alone this is a great book that explains things very clearly.  It's the best swimming book I've seen.

I also have Core Endurance and Zin and the Art of Road Bike Maintenance - very good books. I also just finished a book entitled Transformed by Triathlon - The Making of an Improbable Athlete. Is a personal account of one woman's journey through her first triathlon - great read and quite the inspiration!
