Overall Rank = 167/815

Age Group Rank = 23/86
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:45. Went to transition, racked my bike and got everything setup. Went back to the hotel ate a banana and a cliff bar. Relaxed until about 6:30. Headed down to the water got my wet suit on and talked with my other team mates.
Event warmup:

Got in the water about ten minutes before hand and just swam around a little bit. Got used to the water temp. then lined up for the race start.
Swim
  • 39m 49s
  • 2310 yards
  • 01m 43s / 100 yards
Comments:

My fastest swim so far this season. Felt great didn't go out to fast and felt comfortable the entire time.
Transition 1
  • 03m 29s
Comments:

Long run to T1 from the swim exit. Glad I had my shoes staged after I got off the sand. I barely remember getting my suit off and getting on my bike. So I am guessing it was pretty quick.
Bike
  • 2h 44m 34s
  • 56 miles
  • 20.42 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike was good. I felt really strong. On the biggest descent of the bike course I thought I was going to die. Bike was shaking and really pulling to the left, I had to really feather the brakes to slow it down and stay in control. A little while after wasn't paying attention and tried to go through to many gears to quickly and dropped my chain off the big ring. I was able to get it back on pretty quickly, and maybe lost 30 seconds.
What would you do differently?:

Watch the shifting a little better so I don't lose my chain.
Transition 2
  • 01m 4s
Comments:

Good transition, Made sure my water belt was on before I started running then put my number belt on.
Run
  • 1h 40m 10s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 07m 39s  min/mile
Comments:

Went out a little to fast, mainly because I couldn't feel my legs. Had a good first half run, was pretty close to 1:35 pace, but was really in need of salt. The Heed on the course was really weak and watered down, didn't do a thing to replace any electrolytes.
What would you do differently?:

Run with salt tabs, go out a little slower. Take one more bottle of Gu20 with me.
Post race
Warm down:

Ate a lot of food drank a lot of water and stood in the ocean for a few minutes.

Event comments:

Great race for my first half Ironman. Haven't decided what to do next, but it's still early. My only complaint is I want a better expo. The gear they had for sale sucked.

looks like you had a great race, esp. for your first half!  You're definitely a runner with a split like that so no wonder you're "runner76."

I think you have a typo on your total time (probably meant 5:07 and not 7:05).

I actually thought that race time meant race start time, thanks for the heads up. Definitely a fun race.

Congratulations, you must have been flying on the bike!...and the run! All that training and laying off the beer paid off. Now to indulge awhile before getting back at it. Anybody trying to con you into an IronMan next year. I'm still thinking of Wisconsin 09 and Buffalo Springs Half in 08.

Happy Training!
And have a great week.

The Bike was unbelievable, felt super strong and didn't want to let up. I went out a little to fast on the run, but was still able to maintain a decent pace without killing my self.
As far as Ironman, I don't know yet. I plan on keeping the Tri training going well through the off season, with the main focus now being on CIM, but after that who knows.
After the race i had three dinners, a bottle of wine and a sunday, it was very nice.
