Total Time = 1h 04m 29s
Overall Rank = 13/145
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 2/13
Pre-race routine:

Set up transition and got things moving. Consumed two whole wheat mini-bagels w/honey and PB. Drank Carbo Force before race, but not long enough.
Event warmup:

With a very short swim, I opted against a warm up, since I could just hammer the swim and use it as a warmup.
Swim
  • 04m 12s
  • 300 yards
  • 01m 24s / 100 yards
Comments:

I must have listed too conservative a time. I caught up with the lady in front of me within the first length. 50yds later I passed her off the wall.
What would you do differently?:

More accurate swim time for seeding. Consume pre-race calories much earlier.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

unknown T1 time; no chips used. Maybe :40? Everything went very smoothly. Long run from pool to transition, including navigation of long stair flight down.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 36m 59s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 20.17 mile/hr
Comments:

Clearly I need to get back to work on the hills. And different rear gears would have been smarter. Still very nervous approaching sharp corners at speed; need to master that. Legs felt very sluggish through whole ride and almost pre-exhausted. Forgot sport legs vitamins, which would have helped. Also did an intense brick 2 days before.
What would you do differently?:

Not drink as much pool water, use a more hill friendly cassette for a suspected hill course, and remember my stupid sport legs before race! More space between taper brick and race.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

unknown T2 time; no chips used. Estimate :50. Very fluid and almost zero wasted time
Run
  • 23m 18s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt long, but probably wasn't. Right calf cramped almost immediately, but I ran through it. Never recovered pace, however.
What would you do differently?:

More bricks in training.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and waited for awards. :-)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Recovery period since wreck. Only 1 brick in a month. Poor cassette decision made hills more difficult, coupled with forgetting supplements.

Event comments:

Course and pre-planning were great. Nice facilities and preparation. Needed some more course workers, however. Or at least more obvious route marking with signs and arrows.

Congrats on the podium! Hardware is always a nice reward for getting back into racing mode.
