USAT

Sunny
Total Time = 1h 44m 54s
Overall Rank = 433/564
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 51/56
Pre-race routine:

It consisted primarily of panicking. Even though I had plenty of time, I didn't get there as early as I wanted to and then went into a rushed panic.
Event warmup:

Treading water. :)
Swim
  • 20m 37s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 45s / 100 meters
Comments:

Chris lent me his wetsuit [thanks again!] which made a big difference for me. I've never done an OWS with a suit on and was amazed at the difference.
What would you do differently?:

Do a better job of keeping on course and steer wide of the traffic jam rounding the buoys.
Transition 1
  • 03m 13s
Comments:

I had a really hard time getting transitioned on this one.
What would you do differently?:

Get my tri-shoes fit with clips so I don't feel the need to towel off my feet.
Bike
  • 44m 38s
  • 12 miles
  • 16.13 mile/hr
Comments:

The one place I do well at is the downhills and the cornering, which was mostly nullified by narrow roads and corner-cowards.
What would you do differently?:

Be more aggressive in getting blockers out of the way. I also, quite obviously, really need to start riding regularly again. I've been ignoring it while I focus on swim/run and the riding is really starting to fall off. Especially the hills.
Transition 2
  • 02m
Comments:

This transition went well. Of course, there wasn't really much to do in this one.
What would you do differently?:

Run with my gloves on. I don't see any point in spending the time to take them off for the run.
Run
  • 34m 27s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 11m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

I had way too much left at the end. Also had a difficult time with consuming fluids on the run. The first 1/2 mile was rough until I got my heartrate under control. Overall, I'm happy with this because I did it without any breaks. That's a definite improvement.
What would you do differently?:

Work on upping my pace and dealing with fluid consumption on the run.
Post race
Warm down:

Did a lot of walking & fluid intake. Food after about 1/2 hour or so.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training, training, training.

Event comments:

I had a good time. I could definitely have worked harder on the bike ride [I've been using the ride as a recuperation activity rather than going all out]. I also could have run harder. I'm assuming figuring out my appropriate paces will come with experience. At least I hope so.

Wow! What an improvement over Anthem! You did awesome.  You were hilarious before the race and I forgive you for knocking my coffee over   You've come a long way in no amount of time at all. And you even had some left in you!

Keep working this month and you're going to do great with the OLY at SOMA!!!
