Subject: Kona Training, Week 11 Swim- 6600 yards
Bike- 94 miles
Run- 31.5 miles
Total Time- 10 hours
Had an abbreviated training week this week in order to participate in the Nathan Tempe Olympic Triathlon race on Sunday. I began the week in perfect fashion for preparing for an 10K run with back to back 9 mile runs on Tuesday and Wednesday at a 6:37 pace. I found my speed mojo. I also managed a 50 mile ride averaging 23 mph, so I was feeling strong for the race. My coach had made me due an Olympic race 3 weeks prior to IMAZ under duress. I was so worried I would race and do porely and it would be a blow to my confidence. Instead I rocked and nearly beat Gordo Byrne on the bike, so it was a huge boost in the end.
So I go into this race....feeling like I didn't want to be there, again, despite the good result before. I mean, what if I mess up and just suck? Well, fortunatley I didn't and came through in a Olympic distance PR of 2:00:24, 6th overall and 2nd in my age group. I also, for the second time this year, had the fastest bike split on the day of 55:20 @ 26mph.
Less than 3 weeks to go and I feel more ready than ever. |
