Total Time = 00m
Overall Rank = 42/200
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 9/18
Pre-race routine:

coffee and a cliff bar. Maybe next time I'll drink some water.
Event warmup:

Put on the wetsuit. It's a workout.
Swim
  • 14m 53s
  • 400 yards
  • 03m 43s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was the hardest swim I've done. Over 300 yds of the course was into the wind and with white caps. The good news was I drank plenty of fluids while swimming.
What would you do differently?:

I think ocean swimming? I wasn't ready for the waves.
Transition 1
  • 01m 26s
Comments:

It took me a little bit to get the suit off, but other than that it was ok.
What would you do differently?:

Hurry. I was in low gear.
Bike
  • 42m 11s
  • 13 miles
  • 18.49 mile/hr
Comments:

I rode hard but it felt like I was fighting a loosing battle. I can't beleive I averaged below 20 mph!
What would you do differently?:

Ride the course a couple times to get a plan for all the hills.
Transition 2
  • 01m 8s
Comments:

I was tired. No hussle. Johnny Bench would shake his head in disgust.
Run
  • 23m 12s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

I left T2 with four guys and we had fun joking about the online description of "rolling hills" and "fast course". guys slowly dropped off and then I ran with the lady who came in second over all.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe hill repeats.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and waited for the wife to finish who finished second in her AG.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I think the swim was so tough I had trouble getting into it.

Event comments:

Georgia multisports normally does a better job than this. The volunteers were mostly clueless. The course was brutal. then again, we all raced the same course, volunteers are just that, and my wife got some hardware!

Course: THis was an out and back with some big hills. There were many times I thought "more? you gotta be shitting me!" The first hill starts about 5 feet after the mount line and goes for almost a mile. on the way back, about half of this hill was a no pass zone.

I can't believe that there were whitecaps in a lake! I have never seen anything like that and never want to. Nice that you had a wetsuit - that probably helped. Hopefully GA Multisports gets it together for next year - maybe they just need to work out the kinks since it was the first time. It sounds like it was a worthwhile event for both you and the Mrs. though.

Congrats on a job well-done!!  I swapped emails with a friend who did the race with her husband.  She said the same thing about the swim - worse conditions than most ocean swims she's done!  Wow, must've been tough out there.

Congrats again!!

(and FWIW, she said this'll probably be the 1st - and only - 2 Bridges tri.  Race officials said the venue was a logistical nightmare - parking, cyclists finishing in too close proximity to runners heading out of T2, etc.  Too bad...was looking forward to giving it a go next year)
