Pre-race routine:

Woke up around 6:30, packed it up and headed to Milwaukee to get Josh (mutri). Picked the rest of the stuff up and then made our way out to Whitewater.

Breakfast consisted of half a bagel, cliff bar, and some gatorade.
Event warmup:

Biked a couple of miles and made sure everything was working right after both of those flat tires. Hopped in the pool and swam 200 yds.

Comments:

The swim went absolutely awesome! I did sub 2:00 100's for the first 200 then settled into a nice pace of about 2:00's for the rest of the swim.

I was surprised I swam so well with the little practice I've had.

Very happy with the swim performance.

Another flawless T1! Everything went smoothly and I was out in a flash!

Comments:

Oh man, where to start with this biking fiasco...

Did the entire bike out with the wind behind me and some crosswinds. I looooved the tail winds where I could average 25-26 mph on the straightaways. The crosswinds on the other hand were downright scary!

So the beginning of the end: At mile 8 or so I hear something coming up behind me. Turns out it's farmer Joe in his big ole combine. There are two turns ahead and I'm thinking that he's going to wait until after the turns before the passes me. Farmer Joe had other ideas... To make a long story short: I pretty much got run off the road into the gravel because this moron couldn't wait another 60 seconds.

Rode another mile and a half until I was at mile 9.5 when of course, I got another flat. That makes it three flats in three days! Pulled out my stuff and managed to change my tire with minimal problems. But wait! It gets even better!!! I rode another mile and guess what!!! ANOTHER FLAT TIRE! Woohoo this is going great!

This is where the fun really starts now: While bending over and checking my flat tire, Wow something on my butt really is hurting! Ok it's getting worse now. Put my hand back there to see if I got bit by something or got a thorn in my shorts or whatnot. Found out that I GOT STUNG IN THE AZZ BY A BEE! While attempting to remove said bee, THE BEE STUNG ME IN THE HAND! Wow so this is really going great now.

Well at this point the race was pretty much a loss. I was in the middle of nowhere and had to get back somehow. Hopped on and started biking back ever so slowly. The fun isn't quite over yet! On the way back the volunteer at the corner decided not to wave me the right way through the intersection. So after a nice 4 mile loop out into the middle of nowhere and back I found another volunteer at a different intersection. At this point: my day was over, I didn't feel like hurting my bike any more. Got picked up and brought the bike back to transition.
What would you do differently?:

Avoid large farm equipment with stupid drivers.
Try not to get stung by bees.
Kill whoever put my rims together and stop getting flat tires!

Transition 2

Comments:

Great T2! I put my bike back together, threw it over my shoulder and carried it back the 100 yards or so to transition.

Comments:

So after my disastrous bike ride I was absolutely FURIOUS! Being stupid as I am I decided to go finish the race just so I could say I finished. Made it to about mile 2 or so when my stomach decided it didn't like the Gatorade I drank at T2.

Ok add to the list: throwing up two times.

Finished up the run and ended up passing about 5 people who were still out running.
What would you do differently?:

Not puke.
Post race
Warm down:

Got mad and tried to contain my frustrations.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

What!??! Limiting my race!?!?

Oh maybe the two flat tires, two bee stings, or puking twice!

Event comments:

Overall I was pretty darn mad about the day. Now as I look back at it, the day was quite comical with all of the wretched luck I had... I had better have good luck for the next 100 years!

True Donkey style there, doot!

I feel sooo bad, but why am I laughing soooo darn hard!

You're probably quite happy that it's all over.  Chalk this up as another learning experience.

You'll remember this race forever.  Chalk it up to experience and keep your chin up.  You got a few years left in the sport.

Obviously something on the inside popping the tubes, as you probably know...

Hardcore!  All ya had to do was join the dookie club to hit for the cycle methinks.  Great job overcoming as much adversity as I have seen packed into a race.
