Pre-race routine:

I stayed up too late then woke up before my alarm went off.(5:10am) Coffee, peanut butter toast. Watched the weather to see that the humidity was 97%, the temp was 75, and it was raining. Drove to meet my running partner.
Event warmup:

Stood around in the rain.

Comments:

We took it easy and talked alot during the first half. It got down right hot whenever it stopped raining so I was glad that the rain continued for most of the race.

I was getting itchy to pick up the pace but decided to wait until the 10 mile marker. I felt good when I started going faster. I GU'd and drank plenty so I could keep it up.

I came up behind 3 Marines (young guys) and tossed out some smack talk:
Me: "You guys aren't going to let and old Sailor beat you are you?"
Them: No answer
Me: *as I am picking it up a little* "I am talking OLD here! Did I mention I was a Sailor?"
Them: Still quiet.
Me: "See Ya!"

I kept up my pace and chuckled to myself (and looked behind a couple times)

I don't think anyone passed me in the last three miles but I was knocking off a lot of other runners. I felt really good. I had been holding back for awhile. My pace varied a bit depending on terrain and traffic but I tried to keep it fast without blowing up too soon.

The last .1 miles was in the mud. My focus was not to fall and to keep up my speed. I made it over the timing mats and fought with my chip to remove it.

I grabbed a couple beers and went back towards the finish line to see my running partner come in.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster in the beginning. I sandbagged it for too long.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank a bunch of free beer. Stopped at a couple cycling stores on the way home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I didn't have in as many running miles as this time last year. I sandbagged the beginning. I should have tried to keep a ~8:30 pace from the start.

Nice run, Mike!  I like the smack talk with the Marines.  I'm assuming you beat them?

You run like I do!  No matter how long the run, I always hold back and then let loose the fury on the last few miles.  Great race and I, personally, like your smack talk. I can't believe they didn't bite!
