Subject: Timberman and Mooseman Signup Today!
Today is the first day to signup for these races. Mooseman is June 4 and 5, Timberman is August 20 and 21.

Come to the Granite State, we are going to miss all the attention we are getting during the election!

Adam,

Which one(s) are you going to do? Any recommendations? Do they fill up quickly?

We live in MA and were thinking about doing one.

I did both last year and didn't sign up for either one until Feb or March, so you probably have some time.  But you can check the list at Lin-Mark and see how it progresses.  If it starts filling up, then you can make your decision to register.  But I don't think there's a super need to sign up today, unless of course you just want to get it out of the way and not have to worry about it!

I think I am doing both as they are pretty local for me. The Timberman has gotten rave reviews from anyone who has done it. I have done a few races that Keith Jordan has put on and all al very well organized. I would guess that Mooseman will be a little smaller that Timberman if that makes a difference.

Max is right that Timberman was open until the spring last year so there is no rush. I just want to commit myself early so I actually train during ski season.

That's actually a good idea Adam!  Nothing like paying up front to make sure you do all the training.  I did the same with my Ironman entry.  The cost of entering at Lake Placid is enough to keep me from slacking off.  Even the Timberman would do it as well.  If I recall, it was $125 to enter last year, and that's no small change to throw away by not keeping in shape during the off season!

Good luck with your ski season too.  I might actually get in a trip or two with TriMom.  It's been years since I went skiing...I hope I don't kill myself!

Let me know if you guys come up. I am in the Mt. Washington Valley most weekends.

Now that I am signed up I am already thinking about my base so it will help get me out on those cold New Hampshire mornings.

Good luck at Lake Placid, I tried tpo watch it this weekend but I guess you know what happened with OLN. I saw more bull riding than I ever hoped I would.

I am thinking about Mooseman -- don't know if I will do the Oly or the 1/2 iron. I think that we have some time to decide.

No Oly........for Mooseman Festival, that'd be a 1/4 Iron and a 1/2 Iron, Deb!

.6 swim, 28 bike, 6.55 run.  So if you're not so good a swimmer and kick butt on the bike and run, this is a good race!

Do the half! Aid stations stocked with all kinds of stuff every 10 mi for the bike, and EVERY MILE on the half marathon course! That's what I call support!

From the timbermantri.com website about the Mooseman run course:

The Run: 13.1 mile Run is a scenic double out and back course along the shores of Newfound Lake with rolling hills, passing by the majestic Granite Ledges.

OK, past Granite Ledges triathletes and Newfound Lake lovers..........I did not visibly NOTICE majestic Granite Ledges when I ran this in 2004. Where are they? How can you miss "majestic"?

Having spent all my summers growing up on newfound, I can say that the "majestic" ledges comprise about a 100-150 yard stretch of the road. If you were checking your watch, taking a drink, or whatever, you could easily miss it!

Still, a beautiful lake, and one that I'm looking forward to diving into as a triathlete come June!

Thanks for the welcome! I'm looking at the 1/4 for Mooseman, and then the 1/2 for Timberman. I'm a newbie, so I'm planning on building up through the season, and I'm thinking that I will not have enough open water swim experience that early in the year. I'm in the pool now through the winter (which ends sometime in May around here).

Speaking of the granite ledges, it looks like they are not going to do the actual granite ledges tri in 2005? Is this right?

Correct. No "Granite Ledges" Oly/Int'l race.

Mooseman's 1/4 and 1/2 are in the same lake, and on the same bike/run course as the Granite Ledges was on, plus just a little bit.

Don't you know the BEST skiing is in Utah?  A resort an hour away from me opened last Friday.

i've got both the timberman and mooseman dates written on a sticky note stuck to my monitor here, does that count? as you brave souls are, i need to just sign up for them ,eh? i went up in support of friends that did the 1/2 last year. they said the hills were tough, and the race was great. i've also heard that the swim of granite ledges is beautiful.

also, the timberman has a kids triathlon associated with it as well.

trimom and max...wait for me...wait for me....

We've got you covered Nikki.  Actually, we'll get you in the Hyannis triathlon early in the season (I think it was in May?).  Sprint distance, not too far for you to drive, there will be plenty of us BT-ers there!  We can even arrange a training ride down at the course a few weeks ahead so you can see what you'll be facing.  Ellen and I did that last year and had a great time!

Hi Everyone,

I did the Timberman Sprint last year.

Now I am considering the 1/4 Iron Mooseman. I am not sure that this is good idea as I did not finish the sprint in the fastest of times(I am very slow)

The reasons I am considering is that it is a bigger goal so I find it very motivating and that I loved Keith's whole TImberman experience last year.

The downside is that it seems way out there in terms of distance for me.
And it is early in the season.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Also I live in Montreal but my mom has a house on Winnepesaukee so I don't have a problem to travel there.

Thanks ,
Stacey

Hyannis was in June last year, so Mooseman could well be before it. As I recall, there's not too much action in New England until June. There are a couple of pool based sprints in May near where I live, so we may want to see if one of those work for a meet up.

Stacey - I am in a similar situation. I struggled to finish an Oly length this year. Mooseman 1/2 sounds great, but I don't know if I would be biting off more than I can chew. Its hard to know. I decided to just enjoy my training for now, and I'll make some decisions around the first of the year (a good time for resolutions, no?).

Hi Mangold,

Congrats that's the first step. Plus it will help in the cold days of winter for motivation. Which events did you sign up for?

All the best,
Stacey
