Educate me then, will I need a wetsuit for this event? As this will be my first tri I sure could use some guidance on this.

I will be doing the Turkey Tri as well. Since the water temp is dropping a wetsuit would help to keep you warm. I personally will be using my wetsuit since it makes me so much more bouyant and I am not a very strong swimmer.

The small lake at Bonelli Regional Park gets cold quickly every fall, and I suspect water temps would be upper 60's. A wetsuit would be nice If you're hardcore, the swims not that far and you could probably brave it......

I'm hoping to...but might be out. I have a small stress fracture or muscle sprain that I'm nursing. We'll see if it heals in time!

Ran today for the first time since breaking my wrist, but it looks now as if I won't be back on the bike in time for this. We're talking about possibly volunteering, though, if we stay in town.

I think I'll probably sign up for this as well. Would be my second tri, and no doubt makes for some more great practice before the '08 season starts up.

OK...it's not a stress fracture. It seems to be a muscle sprain that is healing. I ran a little today. Maybe I'm back in. We'll see how Catalina goes next week...

I signed up too...so I'm in. I'm a little worried about the bike hills and about a 4 mile run (I'm used to 3) but I'll be there!

Oh yeah...my other concern is that our families all live in the area and I will have quite a cheering section. Now I really can't look too slow or pathetic!

Unfortunately it seems like that is pretty standard these days... At least for southern california.

I actually really wanted to do this race as it's pretty much the last local race until spring, but I'm going home for Thanskgiving so won't be around.

Is anyone else feeling not we're not real well informed about this race? No email updates. no online updates. There isn't even an expo to find out info the day before. I know it is the first year, but my other tris all seemed to have a lot more info ahead of time.

It says packet pickup is at 6:00. Is that when the transition area opens too?

Also, scared I'm going to freeze my butt off! Yikes! Could be a cold one!

Yeah, wish there was more info. Hopefully the packet pick up in the morning isn't a big cluster.

The saving grace here is that the tri doesn't start until 8:15 am. I'm assuming they will be doing waves, so start time may actually be even considerably later than that.

I'm staying at the Motel6 (yes, I'm that damn cheap) for $60 just down the street from the park. If anyone's looking for a place to stay, they do still have rooms available.

Yeah, weather.com shows a high of 68* w/ a low of 43*. So it definitely will be cool in the morning, but running in 60*+ weather won't be too bad.

Considering how slow I am, here are my goals:

Sub 20 min swim
Sub 45 min bike
Sub 40 min run
Sub 5 min transitions
Sub 1:55 total

I have no idea if these are realistic as I've no clue what the course is like, but there it is. Its in writing. Its official, I have to beat it.

Here are my goals:

  1. Stay Warm
  2. Sub 15 minute swim
  3. sub 5 min T1
  4. sub 48 min bike (15+ mph average on bike)
  5. no walking on bike
  6. sub 3 min T2
  7. run entire distance, no walking,
  8. ideally sub 15 min miles, but I'm more focused on running the whole thing than on time
  9. finish sub 2:10

But most of all...KEEP A POSITIVE ATTITUDE AND HAVE FUN!!!

My goal is just to finish my first tri. LOL

I went to La Jolla Cove today and swam a 1/2 mile with the wet suit on, my confidence just went way up. The wet suit still digs into the back of my neck but I can survive a 1/2 mile.

I'm going to suck it up for my first tri and just stay in my tri suit under the wet suit and keep wearing it on the bike and run, minus the wet suit of course. I guess this is were i will learn all my lessons, being it's my first.

I'm super excited, but just got the email update. They are now saying the bike is 14 miles (not 12) and that the run is 4.5 miles (not 4). I'm a little freaked and don't know that I would have signed up for this had I known that. I've only raced 11 miles on the bike, though I've done up to 16 in training. However, I've only run 3 miles...and only twice. I've never run 4.5. That's half again as much. So...I'm freaked. This run is too long. I was leary of signing up for 4 and probably would not have for 4.5. Aarrgghh!
